Hidden Gems: Meet Wendy Dellis of Change It Up Wellness Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Dellis.

Wendy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a certified Wellness Coach through the Catalyst Coaching Institute, Wendy joins years of training and work in the area of behavior change, experience as a fitness instructor and run club coordinator with a passion for learning, adventure and people. Wendy is licensed in education with a masters in special education focusing on emotional and behavioral disorders from the University of Minnesota. She has competed in 21 marathons and proudly finishes in the “middle of the pack” every time. Wendy is a volunteer leader for a run/hike group that originates from Sweden called Forest Femmes Minneapolis. She loves going on “mini-vacations” with friends and family, which might take the form of conversations over coffee, serving in the cafe’ at her church, snowshoeing through the woods, or laughing because of a missed turn that created a 12 mile run out of an 8-mile run.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The beauty of telephonic wellness coaching is that it can be done from anywhere. Only have a 30-minute lunch break? No problem, eat lunch while making a wellness plan. Don’t want to sit still? Walk while you’re being encouraged on your wellness journey! Just 20-30 minutes can change your life!!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Wendy serves as a skilled partner to help her clients clarify values, specify a vision, prioritize action steps, and implement a wellness plan.

She seeks to guide people toward an adventurous, connected, joy-filled life, that is grounded in sustaining beliefs and directed toward personal wellness that positively impacts others. Her hope is to facilitate a client/coach partnership that is built upon the desires and needs of the client in order to help make shifts in beliefs and behaviors that stick.

Wendy uses a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication that evokes a sense of self-determination and hope, while providing accountability in an environment that values enjoying the process, learning from our failures, and celebrating the successes along the way.

Wendy believes that a coach/client relationship built around accountability and empathy leads to success! She works to inspire real change through using motivational interviewing, the stages of change model, and current research around health promotion, disease prevention, lifestyle medicine, personal success and behavior change. Wendy recognizes the role between self-awareness and growth, and that a sense of purpose is linked to positive health outcomes, so she guides clients toward making a connection between their short-term goals and values. Since tracking progress over time is strongly linked to long-term success, clients learn to track their own behavior, problem-solve, and observe the impact of their actions in a safe supportive environment.
