Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Wyss.
Whitney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2018, my, now husband, Josh, and I were long-distance dating. During that time, we made the most of our limited moments together by engaging in intentional activities. One of those activities was making soap. Admittedly, our first batch was terrible. We used fresh coffee grounds and we used way too much that first time. It was rough and didn’t have much coffee smell to it. But we’ve always been the type of people to make as much as we can from scratch so we enjoyed continuing to learn and make our soap.
In 2021, Josh asked me if I wanted to start selling at the farmers’ market. I was hesitant, but with my his encouragement and refining our recipes, we decided to embark on our journey and start Simply Bliss together. Soap making combines art and chemistry, and as a stay-at-home mom, it allows me to utilize my engineering degree creatively.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a more challenging journey than we initially anticipated. Starting any handmade business comes with its fair share of struggles, from dealing with tax and accounting, to sourcing materials, and marketing our products.
When we started Simply Bliss, our goal was to create a family-based business that we would run together. Around one year into our journey, I became pregnant with our baby girl and lost my job. This led to me leaving my engineering career and beginning my stay-at-home mom career a bit earlier than expected.
It was a significant change, but with the incredible support from my husband, our parents, and our Church family, I realized it was a blessing in disguise. It also allowed me to prioritize my health and the health of my baby during pregnancy.

At Simply Bliss, our mission is all about enhancing your shower and bath routine, making it a truly indulgent experience without adding more time to your day.
We offer a range of products that upgrade your me-time effortlessly. For instance, you can replace your ordinary shower gel with our incredibly moisturizing body soap, which eliminates the need for post-shower lotion. We also have a fantastic shaving whip that provides a closer shave, allowing you to shave just once a week.
What sets Simply Bliss apart is our focus on supporting young moms who prioritize their families. I understand the challenges they face, so we aim to provide affordable luxury for their bathroom routine without any guilt. We want women to feel pampered and cared for, even amid their busy lives.
While we don’t often talk about it, we believe it’s crucial for local businesses to financially support causes that align with their goals and the communities they serve. For Simply Bliss, our foundation is built on the idea that young mothers should be able to affordably upgrade their me-time without worrying about the ingredients they’re using.
Staying true to that vision, we donate 25% of our profits from our limited edition soaps each year to a Twin Cities no-cost pregnancy center. Additionally, we contribute batches of our soap to care kits given to mothers in stressful situations. We believe it’s essential for these women to find moments of relaxation and mental respite whenever they can.
