Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Klamm.
Hi Abby, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I moved to the Minneapolis area for my undergraduate degree, I attended Bethel University and after graduation, I decided to call Minnesota my home. I am a full time social worker and I am very passionate about that work, however, my creative side needed to be nurtured a bit more. I have always loved interior decorating and have a sweet spot for all things vintage, I would find myself at the thrift store all too often with things I loved for my space however could not justify constantly switching pieces out. Therefore, the Burnt Orange Boutique was created as a way to share my love of curating the perfect pieces and offering those for others to furnish their homes. I also have a passion for photography and thoroughly enjoy being able to use my photography skills for my vintage shop as well.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not, I struggle a lot with self-doubt and feeling inadequate, most of the bumps along the way were dealing with my own cognition surrounding my small business. I had to alter the way in which I measured success and the more I held onto my ideals when it came to what I wanted my business to look like the less it grew. The more I have let go of control and have had fun with it the more successful it has become.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about the Burnt Orange Boutique ?
The Burnt Orange Boutique is a small online business that sells vintage home goods and furniture. Burnt Orange is known for the unique pieces it sells and the thoughtful curation of the vintage items. I think what sets it apart is that it reflects my personal style as well as offers pieces that most people can enjoy. I am most proud of the journey the shop has been on, one of the exciting things that happened in 2021 was becoming an in store vendor for Style Society Shop in St. Paul, MN. It has been so fun having select items available for in person shopping at a beautifully curated vintage shop in downtown St. Paul. I have also recently launched a website www.theburntorangeboutique.com for a smoother experience for online shopping which has been very exciting!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I would consider myself a sort of perfectionist when it came to organizing my room, life and school work but I would also describe myself as very down to earth, empathetic, funny and active. I was always involved in a sport and spending time with the people that mattered most in my life. Growing up I was always wanting to rearrange my bedroom and would love coming up with new ways to “see” the space and then making that come to life.
