Inspiring Conversations with Amanda Clark of Palms, Psalms, & Prosecco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Clark.

Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since I was a little kid, I have always wanted to have my own little gift shop. In 2018 I decided to make that childhood dream a reality! I started the plans for Palms, Psalms, & Prosecco as just a little online clothing and gift shop — the candles were just a side hobby that came about from my fiance’s (now husband’s) idea to make my own candles so we didn’t have to buy them anymore. I never planned to sell candles but my friends kept wanting more after I had them test out my sample candles. I decided to add the candles to the shop to make it easier for them to buy them when they wanted to and now eight years later we’re known for our candles.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Call me naive, but I’ve never heard of a small business having a smooth road haha! There have been many challenges including road closures near our storefront, economic changes, supplier delays, etc — but through it all my faith has carried me and my prayers have been heard because God hasn’t let me fail!

We’ve been impressed with Palms, Psalms, & Prosecco, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
PPP has, and always will be, an oasis in the community. We’ve always been a place where people know they can come when life’s got them down and we’ll be ready and willing to cheer them up. Whether it’s buying one of our 100% soy, non-toxic candles, or its laughing down the hallway at all our snarky greeting cards, or it’s snagging a new devotional to find their faith again, we’re always there to hold their hand and remind them that a storm doesn’t last forever.

Our candles are different than others because we not only use the best of the best supplies, but we also made sure they’re non-toxic and they can fill a room when lit.

It’s such an honor that our customers and wholesalers choose our candles over the other thousands of other candle brands — it never goes unappreciated. I’m so grateful!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe the gift shop and candle industry will continue to evolve to be more curated and thought out. One of the main compliments we get from our customers is how excited they are they everything in our shop is different than all the other shops they’ve been to. I see us continuing to change with the trends and continue to have human interaction be a huge part of our business as the world shifts to AI. Customer service will never go out of style and the age of human customer service is soon to be a hot commodity.
