Inspiring Conversations with Amanda Peters of Club Pilates Rochester North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Peters.

Hi Amanda , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Amanda Peters, and my husband, Andy, and I are the owners of Club Pilates Rochester North. We opened our doors in March 2024. Prior to that, I spent ten years working as a dental assistant in oral surgery. While I loved caring for patients, I reached a point where I was seeking more balance—especially with two young kids at home. I wanted to be home when our kids got off the bus and have the flexibility to volunteer and help at school during the day.

Andy works in commercial roofing as the Vice President of Commercial Operations and had always dreamed of owning a business. With a little encouragement from him, we began exploring different opportunities together. After looking at several options, we were drawn to Club Pilates because of its welcoming philosophy and strong sense of community. It felt like a place where people genuinely want to show up—not just for a workout, but to connect with one another.

At Club Pilates Rochester North, we believe Pilates is truly for everyBODY. Our studio is a space where members feel supported, inspired, and encouraged. We’re proud to have a fantastic team that shares these values and works every day to create a positive, inclusive environment. Being part of a community where people are building strength, confidence, and friendships has been incredibly rewarding.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Staffing has been our most challenging obstacle, particularly when it comes to instructors. Club Pilates instructors are comprehensively trained, which means they complete a 500-hour certification program. As you can imagine, 500 hours of education, practice, and apprenticeship takes time—on average, 9 to 12 months to complete. Nationwide, it has become increasingly difficult to find instructors who meet these requirements, simply because the training is so extensive. We are committed to maintaining that standard because the quality of instruction is what keeps our members safe, supported, and progressing. While it can be a challenge, we are proud of the thoughtful, dedicated, and growing instructor team we have.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I work closely with our General Manager, Katie, who oversees the day-to-day operations of the studio. Katie is truly wonderful—she cares deeply about our members, supports our instructors, and keeps everything running smoothly. This allows me to work primarily remotely, where I focus on HR, instructor scheduling, and much of our social media and marketing. It’s very much a team effort, and we are grateful for such dedicated staff and an incredible member community.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Being part of the Rochester community is incredibly important to us. We make a point to keep our business local whenever possible, from partnering with Rochester-based construction and payroll companies to working with local printers and supporting community fundraisers and causes. We believe in showing up, being involved, and giving back to a community that has welcomed us so warmly.
