Inspiring Conversations with Andi Zimmerman of Andi Jo Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andi Zimmerman.

Hi Andi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Photography has always been something I was drawn to, even as a kid. I was the one constantly snapping photos of everything and everyone. What started as a creative outlet while teaching full-time soon grew into something much more meaningful.

I officially launched Andi Jo Photography over a decade ago with the goal of preserving memories in a way that felt real, raw, and genuine. I specialize in wedding and family photography because I believe these are two of the most powerful seasons in life. Those moments are full of connection, love, and fleeting details that deserve to be remembered.

Since then, I’ve photographed over 100 weddings, become a multi-time published photographer, and had the honor of documenting hundreds of families. I focus on natural light and prompt-based direction that brings out real emotions. I want my clients to feel like they’re spending time with a friend, not just checking something off their to-do list.

Today, I’m proud to offer a full-service experience, whether it’s helping couples plan the perfect wedding timeline or chasing giggles with toddlers during a fall mini session. Every step of this journey has been driven by my passion for people, storytelling, and finding beauty in the little things.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not always smooth, but I think that’s part of what’s made this journey so meaningful.

One of the biggest challenges has been balancing everything. I’m a full-time elementary school teacher, a mom, a wife, and a business owner. Juggling all of those roles means late nights editing after my daughter goes to bed, early mornings prepping sessions, and a lot of coffee in between. There were seasons where I questioned if I could really do it all, or if I should be doing it all.

Another challenge has been growing a business in a constantly changing industry. Trends shift, algorithms change, and there’s always pressure to show up perfectly online. I’ve had to learn to stay grounded in my why; serving my clients well and capturing what’s real; instead of getting caught up in comparison or hustle culture.

There have also been the hard lessons, sessions that didn’t go as planned, weather that didn’t cooperate, or weddings where I had to troubleshoot on the fly. But every bump in the road has taught me how to adapt, serve better, and trust myself more.

I wouldn’t trade the struggle for anything. It’s shaped me into the photographer and business owner I am today. And I’ve learned that the magic often happens right on the other side of the mess.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Andi Jo Photography?
Andi Jo Photography is all about capturing the moments that matter most. The real, unfiltered, joy-filled ones. I specialize in natural light wedding and family photography, with a storytelling approach that’s rooted in connection, authenticity, and heart. Whether it’s the quiet in-between glances during a wedding ceremony or the wild, giggly chaos of a family session, I aim to photograph people as they are, not just how they look.

What sets me apart is the experience I provide. I’m not just showing up with a camera. I’m showing up as a guide, a cheerleader, and often, a new friend. My couples get planning tools, timeline help, vendor recommendations, and honest support from someone who’s photographed over 100 weddings and knows how to adapt to anything the day throws at us. My families can expect a session that’s laid-back, playful, and focused on connection over perfection.

I’m most proud of the way my brand feels, personal, warm, and intentional. This isn’t a cookie-cutter service. I genuinely care about each client and their story, and I want them to feel seen, celebrated, and at ease every step of the way. That means quick sneak peeks after a session, guidance when they need it, and heirloom-quality galleries that tell the full story of their day or season of life.

My offerings include wedding coverage with the option of one or two photographers, engagement sessions, family sessions, mini sessions, and a personalized wedding planning guide for my couples. I also offer professional prints and albums so those memories can live off screens and in your hands.

At the end of the day, I want everyone to know this: your story matters. Whether you’re planning a wedding or wrangling little ones for a family session, I’m here to capture your season with heart, intention, and a whole lot of joy.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is just playing outside with my family and friends. I was a total country kid. Running barefoot through the grass, making up games in the backyard, and not afraid to get dirty or be totally silly. We didn’t need much to have fun. Some days it was bike races down the gravel road, other days it was building forts or catching frogs. Looking back, those simple moments, filled with laughter, freedom, and connection, shaped a lot of who I am today. I think that’s why I’m so drawn to capturing real, joy-filled memories for families now. There’s something so special about the unscripted stuff.
