Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelika Rose.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Angelika and I am the owner and program coordinator for Royal Rhythmic Academy of Minnesota, School of Gymnastics and Dance. I started gymnastics at a very young age (aka 3 days old). My mom, Marina Gladkova, had her own rhythmic gymnastics school for many years. Being one of the first to bring this European sport to America, she was very successful but closed her business in 2010 after being diagnosed with cancer. Since then, we worked together with another gym raising many successful nationally ranked gymnasts. On August 1st, 2019, my mom and I opened our own mother-daughter business. This year we reached the amazing accomplishment of qualifying 11 girls to nationals, and many came home with gold! I love my job because it is so rewarding teaching the girls the basics of the sport when they just start and watching them turn into amazingly talented gymnasts.
Besides being a business owner, program coordinator, and coach, I am also a full-time pre-medical college student at the University of Minnesota with big dreams of becoming a fetal surgeon.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Shortly after we opened our business, the global COVID-19 pandemic hit. Being a new gym just starting to get our feet into the water, this hit us hard. We transferred all of our team training to online via zoom and canceled our recreational program for at least 3 months. Once we reopened for in-person training, we ended up losing a lot of our students that did not feel safe returning to in-person. The financial impact of losing students as well as the restrictions and mandates made it very challenging to operate our business. Finally, more than a year later, we are getting back on our feet! Our program is at record enrollments and we keep adding new classes! While the pandemic was a huge obstacle, we are grateful we made it through and are back on track to doing what we love most: teaching kids gymnastics.
We’ve been impressed with Royal Rhythmic Academy of Minnesota, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a local, mother-daughter-owned business in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota offering rhythmic gymnastics to kids ages 3+! Our experienced coaches work with every child to bring out their full potential. Whether your gymnast is just getting started or as years of experience, we specialize in creating a fun, safe environment where we go above and beyond to teach not only gymnastics but life skills. Rhythmic Gymnastics is an amazing sport that combines ballet, dance, acrobatics, gymnastics, and more into one sport! No need to drive your child around to 3 sports when they can get it all in one place! We work on building strength, flexibility, coordination, agility, musicality, disciple, focus, direction taking, and more.
