Inspiring Conversations with Ashlee Cooper of Revive Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Cooper

Hi Ashlee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, my name is Ashlee. I have been in the massage industry for 11 years now. I started my journey toward holistic health and hands on healing because as a teen and into my adult years I had injuries (ACL and meniscus tears) and had surgeries to repair. Ever since then I have been on a quest to find non invasive ways to heal the body and mind. I realize that surgery is necessary in some cases, but the effects injury’s or surgery’s have on the body need other modalities to continue the healing process. This search than made me more curious about how the body works and how movement and non movement can affect the muscles.

Since I became a licensed massage practitioner I have worked at Massage Envy, Regenerative medicine/ chiropractic clinic and now for myself at Revive Therapy.

I opened my business, Revive Therapy, in April of 2024. This has been the best career decision ever! For one I love being my own boss! And two, I love being able to uniquely help clients release tension through therapeutic massage and tools such as cupping. I now hav a pretty full clientele and am doing what I love everyday!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a massage therapist in general is a pretty relaxed job, however there are always pros and cons.

When working at Massage Envy my scope of limitations was wide. As a massage therapist at a spa you cannot recommend any treatments besides more massage to your clients. That was difficult because there are so many simple things that people can do to help themselves in between massages, like stretching or adding heat or ice, that could vastly improve their health.

When working at the chiropractic clinic about half of clients were injury claim (car accident, workers comp) clients. With working with an injury claim client there are a lot of regulations that need to be followed. The client was only given the amount of massages prescribed by the doctor and could only come in appropriate time frames (1x per week, etc). As the client started getting better or more time had passed, than they were unable to come in as frequently which could than slow their progress.

As far as my new business, I am slowly learning the back office and accounting things. Thank god for my amazing account helping me keep on top of everything financial. And I would say the only other “problem” is the business is growing faster than anticipated. I am getting busier every month and am close to closing off my new client entry soon. This problem is a great one to have and I feel so grateful!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is Revive Therapy. I named my business Revive Therapy because my hopes are always that the hands on therapy I give (massage and assisted stretching) revive your mind, body and spirit. I think at times we all get overwhelmed with some kind of mental or physical stress. Sometimes we need someone to help relax and release. Relax for some clients means lighter soothing massage and for others it means deep tissue with cupping. Whatever can help clear the mind and reset the body is what we are trying to achieve through massage and assisted stretching. I work with the body and offer what is needed. I never do the same massage it’s always specified to what is needed for that day and that client.

I use a multitude of modalities in my massage including: deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial release, sports, trigger point, etc.

Add ons I offer at my business are hot stones, cupping, cbd, aromatherapy, Kinesiology taping and thermal fusion (hot and cold therapy).

One of the things that I am most proud of is that I have clients today that I still see from when I started doing massage 11 years ago. I have an amazing dedicated following. They inspire me to keep being an amazing healer and they also make my job so much fun!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Some of the advice I would give to those just starting out would be you will learn more by doing hands on massage in the field than you learned from the text books in massage school. There is so much intuition that is gained over time from repetition and familiarity of the body and symptoms. Keep learning and never forget that helping people is a gift.
