Inspiring Conversations with Ayonna Rushing Jackson of Tired As A Mother

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayonna Rushing Jackson.

Hi Ayonna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Ayonna…and it’s so nice to meet you! I am the founder and CEO of Tired As A Mother. Prior to starting Tired As A Mother, I was working as a fraud analyst when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018. Unfortunately the illness became very debilitating, and I didn’t have the ability to work a structered office job. Between my sickness and the birth of my child, I knew I wanted to create something that represented my adversity while still allowing me to provide for my daughter.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As of 2025, I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, and Chronic Urticaria. These diseases can cause levels of pain and discomfort that vary from day to day. While the quality of my work and commitment does not change, sometimes cleaning will take longer than usual. In these instances I remain professional and keep in constant communication with clients. While my diseases may be hindering, they do not define me.

We’ve been impressed with Tired As A Mother, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tired As A Mother is a residential and commercial cleaning company. Our mission is to make your space comfortable and relaxing for you. We accomplish this through either light or deep cleaning, organization, postpartum support, and other housekeeping tasks requested. I would say, first we’re known for our top notch service! But really, Tired As A Mother symbolizes black woman entrepreneurship and empowerment, and that’s what sets us apart. The community is gracious in their support.

I want readers to know that our services are for everyone. Getting your spaces cleaned is not exclusively for those with presumed wealth and privilege. We treat everyone equally, and we would love to cater to you!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My love for cleaning began at a very young age. I remember my brother and I being awakened by the scent of fresh air and pine sol every Sunday morning. My mom would be in the kitchen wiping down surfaces, sweeping and mopping floors (by hand) while jamming out to
Jill Scott & Angie Stone on her stereo system. Seeing my mother take pride in not only being a mother, but also in creating a safe and clean environment for my brother and I meant so much to me. It’s because of her that I take pride in nursing others’ homes back to good health.
When I’m not cleaning, I enjoy doing arts & crafts with my daughter, trying new restaurants, strolling the isles of target (solo), and spending time with my grandma (she’s my best friend).
Things that make me happy, and why:
1. A fresh bouquet of flowers, because they positively impact my mood, and they make my home feel more inviting.
2. Being a dance mom, because I love watching her grow & thrive.
3. Self-Care, because it improves my productivity and it’s a way of nurturing oneself.
4. Singing, because it makes me feel good!
