Hi Ben, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
It all started very casually. A couple of friends of mine with ponds got me interested in having a pond of mine. It seemed very relaxing. Growing up, I always had aquariums around the house and fish everywhere! Taking care of my fish was a love of mine, and I just couldn’t get enough. So naturally, the opportunity to have an “adult aquarium” with an outside pond just seemed to make sense.
It kind of just flowed from there. As we had the whole family digging this pond out and getting everything set up, I started taking classes on pond care, maintenance, and even building. It was after we got the pond installed that I realized the pond wouldn’t work with fish without killing them, which was a huge problem for me! As I got more and more immersed, my interest and passion for water features grew deeper and deeper. And now, here I am!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a decently smooth road, much smoother than past endeavors! I feel as if I have struggled through so much in the past, that I knew everything right to do to build Superior Ponds. Everything just sort of fell into place. There’s still the struggle of getting this to catch on, but with something as amazing as backyard ponds, what’s there not to love?!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I build Superior Ponds. But don’t let the name hide the fact that I also build fountains and waterfalls too. Saying I build water features is probably more accurate, but Superior Ponds is the pinnacle of what I do.
Water features come in many forms, in many shapes, and in many spaces. They can be as small as tiny 4’x4′ spaces in corners or by your front door, or cover your entire backyard. There’s so much flexibility!
What sets us apart? There’s not much else out there. We know what we’re doing, and have the skills and expertise to deliver a superior water feature that can be enjoyed for years to come. An inferior-built pond or waterfall could cause endless headaches and lots of money to fix, besides being an eyesore. But that’s all self-justification.
What we do is communicate, clean up when we’re done, and provide an enjoyable experience along with a warranty on our work. We seek to educate and help our clients become more confident water feature owners!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
BIGGER! The only other direction we can go is bigger and better ponds.
We’ve got the small stuff figured out with all the right equipment, but there can be a surprisingly big jump from small ponds to big ponds when it comes to equipment, manpower, and the rocks to make a large pond naturally fit into a landscape. I’m excited as we begin that journey!
