Inspiring Conversations with Bernie Ozan of Best Day Ever Tents and Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernie Ozan.

Hi Bernie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For as long as I can remember I wanted to own a wedding/event venue. I have always enjoyed planning events. Our lives were busy as my husband and I both worked full-time while we raised our three kids. With kids to raise and bills to pay we never wanted to take the risk to start our own business was in the cards. In the summer of 2019, our daughter got married. I was excited to be able to help her plan and design her wedding. I knew that this was my passion, and I needed to figure out a way to make this dream become a reality. One day we learned of someone who was selling the inventory from a small rental company. The investment was small, and we were at a point in our lives where our kids were out on their own, so we decided to jump in and try it. Being 58 and 60 years old, people thought we were crazy. Most told us we should be slowing down and planning retirement, not starting a business. Although my husband Rich had not always shared my dream of creating beautiful events, he was supportive from the start. We opened Best Day Ever Tents and Events in May of 2021. Each year we grow and take on more events. We are so happy to say that to our knowledge we have never had an unhappy customer. Our business is small, but we do big things. Because of our size, we can take all the time we need to work with our clients down to the smallest detail. We have several friends and family members who work with us if need help and people often laugh when three or four 60-year-old women get out of the truck and set up their tent. We have chosen to keep Best Day Ever small so that we can provide this very personal service. We do so much more than rent tents, tables, and chairs. We work together with our clients to create weddings or events of their dreams. I feel like I have new friends after each event. One of my favorite things to do is to read the reviews our clients leave for us. Nothing makes me happier than making people happy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our road has been a smooth one. We grew our business each year and invested everything we made back into the business. After two years I was able to retire from my “real job” and run Best Day Ever full-time. My husband retired in June of 2024 and now we work together. We have our busiest season from May through October and then we take a little break while we make plans for next season.

As you know, we’re big fans of Best Day Ever Tents and Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We feel that what sets us apart from other similar businesses is that we are more than a rental company and more than an event planning service or decorating company. We are so proud that we can walk into a simple back yard and create a beautiful wedding venue where there was nothing but green space. My favorite part of the entire experience is when a bride walks out to see the tent after we have finished draping the ceiling with chiffon and hanging chandeliers. Seeing her face when all the candles are lit and the decorations are displayed is priceless to me. That is why I do what I do. That is what makes it all worth it for me. I can say that I never got to own a wedding venue, instead, I bring the venue to my clients. They get to have their event in a place that is important and holds meaning for them and that makes it even more special.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is that my clients have a great experience and that their special day is the “Best Day Ever”!
