Inspiring Conversations with Bobbie Miller Thomas of FamilyFindsMN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobbie Miller Thomas.

Hi Bobbie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
FamilyFindsMN started as an idea from my husband as we were sitting at a restaurant for dinner. Food has and will always remain an important part of relationship building. At every celebration, food is at the center. We have always been the known foodies and travelers of our circle and often got requests from people on where to eat and what to do.

Having the perfect place to share food experiences matters and we wanted to share the best places for those experiences with more than just our immediate circle. Our blog FamilyFindsMN was birthed from those thoughts. Through the growing pains, we have prided ourselves on sharing REAL reviews. If we are collaborating with a company to promote an event or experience we will only do so if we have experienced the product and it is one we would suggest to our followers.

We often heard people say that there is nothing to do in Minnesota, but I am a firm believer in creating places and spaces where people can come together and have fun.

What started as sharing our experiences evolved over the years allowing FamilyFindsMN to expand beyond blogging into creating events for our followers to attend.

It has been amazing partnering with various brands over the years and trying experiences that even we did not know we were open to.

As we get back to the new normal post-pandemic we look forward to expanding our content and bringing new experiences to our followers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have been faced with many challenges over our time in business. As more and more technology develops we have had to find ways to reach new people on new platforms. The various apps and algorithms are so hard to stay on top of. We try to keep it in mind but tend to just focus on sharing our real-life experiences in hopes that it helps someone.

It has been challenging developing content and building meaningful partnerships all while remaining true to our brand and what we want to represent.

Just as we began expanding into events the pandemic came and turned things upside down. We were forced to cancel events and postpone projects we were working on. It also became hard to share businesses with our followers because we simply were not leaving the house to experience any.

After some time we found ways to get back in our grove by hosting virtual events, ordering products to share our experiences, and trying food through the take-out option.

We are finally at a point where we are ready to get back to traveling and hosting more events safely.

As you know, we’re big fans of FamilyFindsMN. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
FamilyFindsMN is a local blog about our family of three and our experiences in Minnesota and beyond. We primarily share our content on our social media platforms and website FamilyFindsMN.com.

We are an adventurous family offering REAL reviews on food, entertainment, and other experiences. We often partner with Black business owners and woman-owned businesses to serve as Brand Ambassadors, provide product promotion, and reviews.

We are known for our candid reviews and telling our followers how we feel about what we have tried.

We are most proud of remaining true to our brand and what we share at a time when social media is full of fake collaboration requests, purchased followers and reviews, and the illusion that being on social media is easy. Even while working full-time jobs we find joy in keeping people updated on the things out here for them do rather it’s a date night, dream vacation, museum adventure, theatre, or dinner experience.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I have always been a semi-introvert. Once I get comfortable and out of my shell I am a whole different person, but it takes some time for me to get there.

I have always been someone to try new experiences and the natural bossiness that equates to leadership abilities made it easy for me to take charge and plan events ranging from group nerf gun wars to a 90s boat party. If I haven’t tried something I am willing to try it once at a minimum.
