Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Shull.
Hi Brittney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in Real Estate at 19. I went off to college to be a social worker and mid-way through my first year I dropped out knowing that career wouldn’t be a good fit for me. I wanted to help people but knew that the burden of heartache I would carry home with me every night would hurt my future family and marriage. I quickly got my Real Estate license and began working with my mom and grandparents who were already in Real Estate. When the market crashed, I shelved my license, went to work for a mortgage company, and at the same time went back to college for a degree in Interior Design. Fast forward to 2015, I was working full-time as an Interior Designer for a national builder when I decided to start a family. I reinstated my license and when my maternity leave was up in April 2016 I went full-time into Real Estate again. I was a new mama and starting a new career. It was scary but I knew it was right for me. The day I was giving my notice I was so worried, I had no way in knowing if I was making the right decision. That day was the first time I heard God speak to me and he said “This is the right move, I’ve got you”, and looking back 6 years later it was absolutely the right move. Business was good and as each year became more profitable, I put my primary focus on building meaningful relationships. When I started my goal was to become each client’s extended family member or friend. Today I have a team that was started in April 2021 and our tagline is Your new BST friends! My core values and drive to help people have remained the same. I love people. I love being a part of people’s big moments and as a result have been blessed to partake in engagement plans, baby announcements, and helping people through tough moments like the loss of family members and divorce. Each story is different and I truly appreciate all the trust my clients, also known as friends, have in me to help them get to the next chapter of their lives no matter what the scenario.
When I was 19 I said to myself, “I am going to go into a career where I can help people, and one day I hope to help single mamas like me in a big way”. I recall having a vision of buying housing for single moms, connecting them to job opportunities through the businesses/network I am a part of and helping them see their full value. In 2021, I was finally in a position to do exactly this for the first time. I purchased a home for a mama who was not in a position to and I was only able to do this because there was once a time when I was in need and someone showed me the same kind of love and compassion. It gave me the capacity to understand that my dreams have no limits. I hope one day to have a network so big that we are helping thousands of families in ways far beyond buying and selling homes. I believe that with the great tribe I am surrounded by who share like-minded hearts and drive we will do great things together.
2020-2021 were big years for me. I met my now husband in the summer of 2020 and again needed to rely heavily on God, who moved many mountains for me to have the marriage I have waited my entire life for. I now have expanded the team into CA and travel to MN monthly to continue the work there and together we have so many more plans in the works.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was not a smooth road. In 2016, 10 days after I had my son my 24-year-old brother died on a cruise ship. As the oldest of 7 I carried my mom and sisters through their very emotional state with a newborn and a career change. Later that same year after a 13 year relationship with my son’s dad I became a single mom. I waited and anticipated much of my life to become a mama and here I was having one of the hardest years of my life. I was spending most of my time just staying afloat financially and emotionally. Every holiday was spent mourning the loss of my brother where I envisioned celebrating it being a 1st for my son.
I spent the next 4.5 years single, running a business and a household with 2 dogs and a sweet little boy alone. It was really exhausting but also fulfilling. I hit many lows with anxiety trying to stay positive and faithful but fear, imposter syndrome, loneliness, and more crept in from time to time.
In early 2020 I decided things needed to look differently. I started delegating, hired an assistant, found a therapist, a faith-based energy healer, and worked on giving myself some grace.
I struggled a lot with my physical worth, although working out 5-6 days a week and dieting constantly I was overweight and realized later it was heavily stress-related. Between 2020-2021 I lost 70 lbs and I give much credit to the list of people in my tribe from above and am learning (still learning) to slow down and give myself some grace.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The BST(Brittney Shull Team)?
Our team has two interior designers who intentionally provide these services(staging, space planning, color selections, furniture hunting, and more) to our clients both before and well after closing.
We love celebrating with our clients continuously through all their life events. We generally host 4+ appreciation events per year, ding dong ditch treats on Thanksgiving and Valentine’s day, and offer opportunities to gather and give back by volunteering together in our community.
When working with the BST we truly operate as a team giving each client access to multiple agents throughout their home buying/selling process. Additionally allowing agents to have balance in life and make sure clients never miss an opportunity based on the schedule of one individual. Also allowing our team members to showcase their particular skills.
Our Mission Statement:
Creating celebrated experiences through homeownership everywhere.
Real Estate is a means to ministry and an opportunity to bless others. We are working towards becoming every client’s new BST friend:
(B)Blessing – We believe in coming from contribution, having a servant’s heart, and always putting our clients and fellow team members first.
(S)Smart – We will be creative, accountable, and strategic in optimizing time and service to our team and clients.
(T)Team Player – Always willing to help and believes our team is a part of something bigger. Working together for the bigger picture.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For years I defined my value with success. I began working at a local coffee shop full-time at 14 years old and from there I was driven by my growth and continuous accomplishments. In the last 2-3 years I have worked and I am still working on redefining what success means to me. Now I feel success through balance in life. By waking up each day and doing my best, loving on people around me, quality time with my family, helping and supporting the community, taking care of myself by working out, meditation, and time with God, I define success by a measure of how happy I feel with my life as a whole.
I do still tend to hold a lot of value on how many clients I have helped, how many agents I have mentored, and how my business has grown but I now know that this alone is not enough to define success in life.
