Inspiring Conversations with Cinzia Falcomata of Cinzia’s Custom Creations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cinzia Falcomata.

Hi Cinzia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My maker journey started in 2018 initially as a hobby to invest in some free time after a drastic decision to leave corporate managerial positions and spend more time with my family and kids. A huge help has been moving back to Minnesota where I suddenly have the time and the space to cultivate my artistic passions like food decorating and crafting that has been set aside for many years. Gradually the hobby became more and more serious and discovering the possibility to legally sell baked treats from my home while selling online my wood crafts set the basis for my current business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Once the hobby became a business, I would lie if I say everything went smoothly. Setting up a business from scratches, especially if a home based business, requires a lot of investments for building credibility.

In addition, you had to find a niche and offer some unique products.

From a personal perspective, my picky engineering background delayed and still delays a lot of new ideas until they are perfect!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Because initially born as a hobby while gradually adding what I loved to do, my business includes two different areas: the food business, where I specialize in custom decorated treats like sugar cookies, cakes and cakepops, and the woodworking/craft business, where I mainly offer custom wood & epoxy signs but also have a big segment for wedding decor. 99% of my products, in both areas, are custom made and involve a lot of communication with my customers in order to capture their ideas and transform them into a product, that could be a cookie or a scroll saw sign.

As of today, the 2 businesses are combined in one company, social media, etc, but my goal for this new year is to split them in order to better focus on each segment with the more appropriate strategies.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m one man business, but the majority of my work is transforming other people’s ideas in tangible products. My business would not exist without the daily inspiration and support from the community I do live in.
