Hi Derek, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Yes, first off what a great opportunity, thank you for that. I got my start very early on, it was around 1995 to be exact. We were an all inclusive buffet style company in the landscaping and construction industry. We did just about anything for a buck. Tree removal and tree trimming, retaining walls, paver patios, soft scapes, and the occasional deck. Eventually more and more requests came to our desk for decks and porches in about 2003. From there on we never really looked back and became more fluent with the composite products. To name a few Goliath players in the maintenance free products we utilize Trex, AZEK and TimberTech decking and fascia as well as Westbury aluminum rail systems. Things really have evolved at such a lightning strike pace which is opening doors to opportunity and design that weren’t possible as early as 10-15 years ago.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been an easy road to say the least. Economic down turn, product accessibility, laborers, health concerns and problems within the family are all legitimate hurdles we have had to face and overcome.

Yes, so we’re Outdoor Solutions Inc. we are based out of Prior Lake, a nice 15-20 south of the twin cities, perched about 5 minutes from down town Prior Lake on a 5 acre hobby farm. We have been a family ran business for 29 years servicing the greater metro. We have dialed our service area in to favor the south side of town more now due to growth and need. We specialize in modern composite decks with aluminum railings. The trend now is to get enjoyment from your deck spring, summer and fall without the hassle of staining and painting every summer or every other summer. We’re known for our punctual turn around for estimates and our top notch service that we maintain during the entire project from start to finish. I would say what sets us apart is the amount of time in our particular industry, everything we’ve seen fail and everything we’ve seen succeed. We’re definitely proud to be an installer of Trex decking and how much time and effort from the top, down that they put into their product to keep them at the top of the industry for deck builders. What I would like readers to know is that we are a very professional and polished deck building company that really focuses on the relationship that we are building during the entire process. We don’t want to just offer a new space to create memories for one’s family but we want to think of ourselves as family or friends long after the process is completed.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best is the opportunity for growth as a community and individually. There are so many amazing people out there and we barely know one another anymore. Granted, most people aren’t out amongst the community during the long winter months and once spring hits we all cram an entire year’s worth of plans in 3 months. What I like least is not everyone’s experience will be the same, in regards to how much they pay for services from individual city establishments especially permits.
