Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Weber
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was raised in Dawson and always had a dream to have a coffee shop or bakery of some sort “when I grew up.” In high school I worked at the local coffee shop, which was mainly a flower + gift shop with a small coffee bar in it. I learned more about the process and learned about our community on a new level. After attending NDSU for Hospitality and Tourism Management, I spent 3 years in Australia in Missions. Part of that mission was growing my knowledge of coffee and management by helping run a Cafe we had on our center. After moving back home in 2021, the previous owner asked me if I would still consider buying the business from him. After purchasing the building in November 2023, I have completely remodeled the building to be a cafe that sells gifts. We now offer bagels, baked goods in house, fresh sandwiches, and soups alongside the gifts.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of our biggest struggles was completeing our renovation last year- what we thought would take 2 months ended up taking 6 months. We learned to pivot and opened the gift shop while we finished the back.
We’ve been impressed with Gnometown Grounds, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Not only do we sell coffee, we also offer breakfast bagels, and lunch options. We have ample seating in store. We are most proud of our work to keep our gift items as local as possible and continue to meet the needs of our community by providing a place to gather together.
For gifts we have decor, kitchen items, kids items, cards, flowers, and soap and lotions.
We love having a space where people can gather from all over!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I have found the most helpful is building connections with other business owners and cafes throughout the area!
