Inspiring Conversations with JuTone Lajoie of Time to Heal Counseling and Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to JuTone Lajoie.

Hi JuTone, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had a moment of clarity that shifted everything for me. I realized how deeply people were hurting and how limited access to safe, intentional spaces for healing truly was. In that season, I had a vision, almost like a calling, that people needed not just services, but a place to pause, process, and truly heal. That vision became Time to Heal.
I’m originally from North Minneapolis, and growing up, I often felt like I had to leave my community to find peace, support, and opportunities for growth. That experience stayed with me. It shaped how I see access, equity, and what healing should look like.
Now, through Time to Heal, I’m committed to creating the very space I once needed, a place rooted in safety, restoration, and community, right where it’s needed most. It’s about bringing healing home. It’s also about people recognizing that they all have purpose in this world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been navigating a field where there are still not many clinicians of color. At times, that lack of representation has made the journey feel isolating and required me to advocate not only for my clients, but also for myself as a professional.
Support has also been inconsistent. There were moments where things felt aligned and accessible, especially when relationships and connections were strong, but at other times, the financial and logistical costs of building and sustaining the work fluctuated in ways that were difficult to manage.
Another ongoing challenge has been engaging with families of color who may have understandable skepticism or mistrust toward mental health services. That’s something I continue to approach with care, cultural humility, and patience. It’s not about changing minds overnight, it’s about building trust, showing up consistently, and creating spaces where people feel seen, respected, and safe.
Each of these challenges has stretched me, but they’ve also strengthened my commitment to this work and the communities I serve.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Time to Heal Counseling and Consulting?
Time to Heal Counseling & Consulting is a trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice dedicated to supporting individuals, children, and families navigating mental health challenges, substance use, and complex life transitions. Our work is rooted in the belief that healing should be accessible, safe, and reflective of the communities we serve.
We specialize in working with marginalized populations and complex family systems, including co-parenting dynamics, marital challenges, and individuals who are often overlooked such as high-functioning individuals living with depression. Many of our clients are navigating layered experiences that require both clinical expertise and cultural understanding, and we intentionally create space for both.
Our practice also brings a unique depth of experience through specialized services. My husband and business partner work with individuals who have committed sexual offenses, offering treatment that focuses on accountability, rehabilitation, and long-term behavioral change. This allows us to approach healing from a broader, systems-level perspective supporting not just individuals, but the families and communities connected to them.
What sets us apart is our commitment to meeting people where they are clinically, culturally, and emotionally. We understand that for many, especially within communities of color, mental health services can feel distant or stigmatized. Our goal is to change that by creating spaces that feel safe, relatable, and grounded in trust.
What I am most proud of is building something that reflects both purpose and lived experience. Time to Heal was created to be the space I once needed a place where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow. As we continue to expand, our mission remains clear: to bring healing home and to ensure that no one has to navigate their journey alone.
