Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Bjorlin.
Hi Katie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Katie Bjorlin and I am a personal stylist & closet consultant! After college, I was working towards a Master’s program in nursing. But at the same time, I started working part-time as a personal stylist for a local women’s fashion brand. I then realized that I loved connecting with women over fashion, so I started full-time with them! After a few years with the company, I knew that I wanted to start my OWN business where I could work 1-on-1 with women to help them find JOY in their closets again. What started as a fun passion project has turned into a business where I get to help women all over the country figure out how to dress for their body type, put together outfits that fit their personal style, and organize their closets in a way that works for them! I share style tips, outfit ideas, and closet organization tips on my Instagram, @katiebstyle.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I decided to jump all in on building my business at the beginning of the pandemic. But, since that was also the time that people weren’t needing to pick out many outfits to wear, it gave me the time to really dig into figuring out the details of my business and the services I could provide. During that time, everything seemed to go online/virtual – so I realized that I could provide virtual sessions as well! Starting my business during the pandemic helped me learn that there is not just ONE WAY to serve my clients – I can serve them in person OR virtually.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Katie B. Style?
I help with all things related to clothes: outfit ideas, styling tips, closet clean outs, closet organization, personal shopping, and selling clothes for my clients online. I’ve always loved helping my family & friends with outfit & closet-related questions, and now I get to help other women as well!
I don’t think fashion needs to be expensive! With styling sessions, I focus on helping clients find outfits with the items they already own, with maybe a few suggestions for additional items to purchase. Then when I help clients shop, we can go anywhere that’s within their budget – from thrift stores, to Target, to mall brands, to Nordstrom.
My sessions are totally customizable: we can do a mix of styling & closet clean out, we can do a personal shopping session with style tips mixed in, etc. I meet each client where they are at in regards to clothes – if you have changed sizes recently due to weight loss or gain, if you have a new job coming up and need appropriate clothes for the office, if you are going on a trip & need help packing outfits that correspond to your itinerary. Even if you literally have no idea how to put together an outfit you feel confident in – I can help!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
With social media (Instagram, Tik Tok, Pinterest), fashion inspiration is closer than ever…rather than just on the runways, we can access it right in our pocket. Following that, I love being able to share fashion inspiration through Reels, Tik Toks, and Pinterest pins.
That being said, I love helping women notice what styles they gravitate towards from social media, and then helping them translate that to their actual wardrobe.
In the next 5-10 years, I look forward to being able to serve more women throughout Minnesota and beyond, by helping them find their style & love their closets again!
