Inspiring Conversations with Lidiia Nemirova of Lidiia’s Music Lessons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lidiia Nemirova

Hi Lidiia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Lidiia Nemirova, I am from Ukraine, I am 21 years old, and I have been living in Minnesota for 1.5 years. I grew up in a family of musicians and have always loved music, knowing that I would dedicate my life to music. After the war in Ukraine started in 2022, my boyfriend (now husband) and I moved to Poland. I was in my final year of music college. Despite the distance learning, I continued studying and began teaching online. In January 2023, we got married, and a week later, we were in the USA. I didn’t believe I would pursue music in the States since many immigrants face hard physical labor. I am grateful to God for the miracle in my life – on the third day of my job search, I found an ad for a piano teacher position at a music school. I applied, and the next day I had an interview where I shared my story, and soon after, I was hired. I began to grow as a vocal and piano teacher for children.

With intermediate English skills, I started teaching and faced many challenges during the first six months. The language barrier, a different education system, and entirely new methods of explanation. At the same time, I was learning all the terminology in English. It felt like I had wasted four years in college in Ukraine because I now had to learn everything in English. But I finished college online with an eight-hour time difference, sometimes waking up for classes at 3 AM. I also took exams at night and graduated with honors. As it turned out, studying in Ukraine was not in vain; these experiences helped me develop a variety of approaches to teaching and become a more versatile instructor.

Three months after working at the music school, I got two private students, and their number only grew. I had little teaching experience, only theoretical knowledge, so I watched dozens of YouTube videos, took several courses, and quickly became a teacher with a busy schedule. From January 2024 to June of the same year, I added one new student every week, without using any advertising platforms—just word of mouth. I offer vocal and piano lessons for children as young as 3 years old. I even have students over 60 years old. I no longer work at the music school and now run my own business called “Lidiia’s Music Lessons.” My next big plan is to open my own music school—either online or offline in Minnesota.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge for me was relearning everything I had studied in Ukrainian—this time in English. It took quite some time and a lot of effort. As it turned out, there were no resources in my language about music education in America specifically for teachers. So, I had to learn everything on my own. Also, due to my young age, not everyone took me seriously—both the parents of my students and the students themselves. That’s why I had to work on my professionalism and earn the respect of others.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a music teaching business in piano and vocals. I teach online or in-person in my studio in Burnsville or at students’ homes if there is a piano available. Having more than three years of online teaching experience, I use top technology for smooth, high-quality lessons. I offer flexible lessons of 30, 45, or 60-minute length. Children, teens, adults of all ages welcome-from beginning to audition preparation, suited to the needs of the participants.

What separates me, however, is the fact that I can make this experience fun and nourishing, especially for young learners, by incorporating games and toys to achieve such. I also periodically organize recitals to build up my student’s confidence and stage presence. I’m not just a teacher; I become a friend to my students. My teaching method is free of judgment. At the same time, I continue to learn and have my own vocal coach. I take various courses and training to become a better musician and teacher. I serve in a worship team at church, so I’m happy to help my students in this area as well. I also write songs and enjoy recording videos on Instagram about my work, which brings me closer to my students. I am very proud of the fantastic feedback and results my students have acquired; having taught more than 3,000 lessons in the last 1.5 years.

At the root of my teaching lies personal rapport; every student coming to my office is dear to me, and I am deeply concerned with his or her growth and learning journey. I offer classical and modern training in music, enabling the students to have a review of diverse styles. Readers should understand that my lessons are not oriented toward technique only but toward developing a lifelong love for music.

How do you define success?
It seems to me that success is not a final destination achieved through certain actions but rather your journey. For instance, even if you are not earning a lot of money but are doing what you love, you are successful. True success is having peace in your heart from what you do every day, and I believe there is no peace in the world without God and faith.
