Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Bryant.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Growing up, my mom would make natural peanut butter for our family as a healthy treat, but I mainly lived off of conventional peanut butter. When one day I read the labels on the jars, I knew I had to go back to learning to make peanut butter the way my mom did. I began grinding peanuts, experimenting with different flavors, and entering a new world. I realized I could make peanut butter that tasted like peanuts and not overly processed oils and sugars mixed with a few peanuts. This turned into a side gig in college, a passion for creating healthy yet delicious products for friends and family, and eventually a full-time business startup with encouragement and support from my husband in 2020. Together, we are dedicated to providing delicious and nutritious alternatives to conventional nut butter and granola. We now sell locally at farmer’s markets and online retail. You’ll find something you love, from chocolate to honey vanilla peanut butter!
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is never a smooth road for any business owner. I had to start everything I did from scratch, but I have enjoyed the process as much as the business. Learning more about marketing, food laws, etc., has been a journey but one that has been worthwhile.
We’ve been impressed with The Whole Oat, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart?
We sell nut butter and granola to provide healthier alternatives to conventional foods. We are known for using olive oil in our products instead of seed oils. I am proud that I could start in my college dorm and now sell at markets and online.
What matters most to you?
My goal with my business is to help people not only live healthier lives but also enjoy the journey! Unfortunately, our current food system does not encourage healthy living. I want to help make it easier and more accessible for people to live healthier while realizing that food can be enjoyable.
