Inspiring Conversations with Melissa Moore of Moore Fit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Moore.

Hi Melissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I studied Kinesiology – Health & Wellness in college and did an internship with the YMCA during that time. I was hired as Fitness Staff and got my first Training Certification a few months later. I always say I fell into Personal Training, but I’ve stayed because I love the relationships I get to build with my clients and the progress I am able to see them make. I worked at the YMCA for almost 10 years and became one of the top trainers in the Twin Cities YMCAs before starting my own business, Moore Fit.

At Moore Fit we focus on strength, community, accountability, and fun! I am passionate about helping people take small steps toward healthier lifestyles, wherever they are at. I am especially excited about coming alongside women and giving them the confidence and skills to add strength training to their workout routines. One way I’ve done that is through a community called Women on Weights. It began with a group of 4 women and has grown to a community of over 75 women through Small Group Classes and Personal Training. I offer in person training options, but virtual training has actually become the main way Moore Fit operates. Clients have found the convenience and comfort of working out in their own homes to be very beneficial when paired with a virtual training session or class.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, there have been some challenges along the way! When I first started as a trainer I had to work hard to make connections and build my clientele base. I feel very grateful for each person I’ve been able to connect with along the way. I also had to gain confidence in my skills and abilities as a trainer. I have had wonderful mentors and friends who helped me get to the place I’m at today of running my own business and feeling confident in the way I can help people live healthier lives through training. I still have so much to learn as a trainer and businesswoman. It’s my goal to be continually learning to keep becoming the best version of myself and offer my clients top service at Moore Fit.

Another challenge in my journey as a trainer was when the pandemic hit and gyms closed down. However, that actually led to the start of Moore Fit through virtual training. I was still able to connect with my clients and continue walking with them on their health journeys through online training. Now I’m able to train people all over the world and have had clients sign on for virtual training from as far as Scotland!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Moore Fit is a personal training business dedicated to cultivating a welcoming space where you become empowered to achieve your goals and have fun along the way. I am passionate about building relationships with my clients and seeing them succeed in developing holistic health habits that bring them freedom and joy.

I offer personal training, buddy training, and small group training packages with virtual or in-person options. I also do one-time fitness classes or parties as well as individualized fitness plans.

I have over a decade of experience and have worked with hundreds of clients over the years. I am an ACSM & NASM Certified Personal Trainer, along with many additional fitness certifications.

I specialize in equipping women to gain confidence in their health journeys and their ability to strength train effectively and efficiently. We have a strong community of women committed to their health journeys through a group I started called Women on Weights. This group includes women who participate in personal training, small group training classes, free classes, our online Facebook group, or some combination of all of those options. I am so proud of these women. They inspire me everyday, and it is an incredible privilege to get to work with them.

Moore Fit has a unique approach of utilizing the virtual training option to reach a wider audience and really met people wherever they are at. You don’t need to have a fancy home gym to do virtual training. I have an individualized approach with each client and session, so I work with whatever equipment is available and suggest small additions as training progresses. The virtual training option is also perfect for someone who might not feel comfortable in a gym setting or has a busy schedule and can appreciate not having to commute to the gym.

Moore Fit also offers a hybrid option for a couple of our classes, giving clients the opportunity to come workout in person outdoors or virtually, whichever works best for them. We take a break from this in the winter, but the other 3 seasons it’s a great time to come together as a group and also take advantage of the benefits of getting outside.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I truly care about my clients and each person I have the opportunity to work with. Empathy is a strength of mine, so I am able to connect with people from diverse situations and backgrounds. This helps me to be creative with how to walk with them on their health journeys, knowing each person is unique and truly wanting them to succeed in their goals.
