Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Moe.
Hi Michael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing carpentry work when I was 21. My father and brother took me on after a fun but not so productive try at college in Mankato MN. With them I learned about framing single family homes, roofing, decks and siding. After I worked with a small remodeling company in the north suburbs of Mpls. There I learned a lot about kitchens and bathrooms. I joined the carpenters Union in 2015. The company that I worked for was a general contractor so I got to work on a few projects from the footings to the end of the job. My favorite being the Springbrook Nature center on Fridley MN. Me and my family moved to Duluth in the fall of 2020. I worked on the Refinery in Superior and then worked on the new hospital for 2 years. After getting a lot of inquiries for residential work I decided to start my own business. My wife came up with Ghost Ship Construction. Duluth has been such a great place to work and live. I am very grateful for this community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been pretty smooth. The work part I really love. I’m learning to like the business side.
We’ve been impressed with Ghost Ship Construction LLC. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Ghost Ship we do residential carpentry work. Decks, porches bathrooms, kitchens, interior remodeling egress windows and windows. I get a lot of handyman calls also. I guess if anything sets me apart it’s my background of doing a lot of different things. Concrete to finish work. These days I focus on carpentry work. Brand wise I just really love the name Ghost Ship. It’s very Duluth. We just really enjoy being able to work here and be apart of such a unique community.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me success is getting to go to work doing what I enjoy.
