Inspiring Conversations with Rachel Ingber of Heirloom Collaborative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Ingber.

Rachel Ingber

Hi Rachel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2019, I stumbled into the idea to make a cookbook of my husband’s grandmother’s recipes. She was renowned in the family for her cooking and desserts. The joy and love she poured into each dish was palpable. The book was completed just in time for her 100th birthday celebration. At that point, it had become more than a simple cookbook; I had accidentally created an heirloom. I quickly saw how much joy the book brought others. With her passing later that year, the cookbook made us feel close to her through her food and photos, even without her presence. It wasn’t long before I heard from friends and family who wanted to create similar keepsakes for their families, and I began to dream of creating beautiful tributes for others. Today, I’ve been honored to create custom cookbooks for over 25 families. I was taking what once was a part-time hobby to a full-time business. Each project has been uniquely special, highlighting family histories, traditions, and photos so crisp you can almost smell each dish.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of my favorite challenges is working with each family to ensure the photography of the dishes matches the look and feel of how it was presented and served in their family traditions. This sometimes requires collaborative research to identify inspirational images and partnerships during the styling of each photo. I even recommend the use of a sentimental serving dish when it’s available!

This dynamic is precisely what put ‘Collaborative’ in the name of my business. It’s critical that we partner together to create the best result.

I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Heirloom Collaborative?
My ability to connect my passions for cooking, photography, and family history allows Heirloom Collaborative to provide an unparalleled service. I work with each family to include highly personal touches to their cookbooks, like images of the original handwritten recipe notecards. Families can order as many copies of the finished book as they’d like- ensuring the traditions can be passed down to future generations.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Patient, collaborative, artistic, and organized
