Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Larson.
Hi Sara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story feels a little like a ferret on on a roller coaster. I’ve lived intrepid live marked by accidental entrepreneurial endeavors that have created a nearly insatiable love for work that brings me alongside women navigating the ins and outs of daily living and the beauty, chaos and complexity that accompanies this thing we call life.
I started my life coaching business about three years ago. Like so many of my other business endeavors I started out hoping to work with women who were experiencing difficult transitions, wether it was caring for aging parents, navigating empty-nesting, or pursuing their next big dream.
Smack dab in the middle of starting this business and on the heels of a whole bunch of weird health issues, I figured out I was the throes of perimenopause. As I started digging into what this meant for me, I also discovered the massive vacuum that is women’s mid-life health care, particularly as it pertains to women in their menopause transition.
I knew this was my calling. No woman should have to work so hard, go through so much dismissive BS, and wade through so much mis-information in order to get the help they need. It is my mission to create a safe space to land for women who are trying to figure out not only, what is happening to their bodies during this time in their lives, but to make sure they have access to evidence-based care in order to more easily get the help they want, need, and deserve.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not!
I saw over 12 doctors in 2 years just trying to get to the root of all of the problems I was dealing with. This doesn’t even tap into trying to find a therapist who could help, a personal trainer who really understands training mid-life women, and just trying not to lose my ever loving mind along the way.
Even now, with an amazing care team in place, I still have to figure out on a daily basis how to manage the chaos menopause creates in my body, brain and life.
This time of life is so hard on women. It’s hard on our bodies. It’s hard on our relationships. It’s so challenging at work. And we’re still expected to show up with a smile on our faces and get everything done the way we did before.
Don’t even get me started on the fact that this is all expected while society simultaneously prefers if we become more and more invisible.
AND, women in this stage of life are bad-ass beyond measure. Its my mission to make all of this easier for them by helping them become experts in their own menopause experience so they can spend less time wondering what in the hell to do and more time pursuing the lives they actually want.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a small woman owned business that specializes in helping women navigate the chaos and confusion of menopause by helping them become experts in their own menopause and helping them find the care they need as quickly as possible.
What sets me apart my commitment to truly personalized coaching. Each woman’s menopause journey is unique. And each women’s choices about how she wants to navigate this time in life is extremely unique. I bring a deep commitment to providing evidence-based information and resources. And more than anything I fundamentally reject this idea that there are quick fixes to what is an extremely nuanced and long life transition. I am not just a coach; I am an advocate, educator, and supportive guide helping women navigate the often turbulent waters of menopause with confidence and grace.
I’m most proud of my coaching. As a brand I am both unapologetically irreverent in my coaching practice and fiercely committed to helping women understand the menopause is a long game. There is no single supplement, medicine, or food that will help make all of your menopause symptoms go away.
I want your readers to know that I believe women have a right to understand what is happening to their bodies along with accurate information about the options available to them in order to find the relief and support they need. I am tired of people misleading women by demonizing and vilifying treatment options that don’t line their pocketbooks. All women deserve a conversation about all of the options available to them so they can make choices that align with their long terms dreams for their future.
What does success mean to you?
How do I define success?
For me success is knowing I stayed true to myself. It’s so easy to compromise my own needs and wants because they are challenging or inconvenient to someone else. Whether it’s in my relationship with my spouse, my kids, my friends, or my work, success to me means I’ve made my choices because they are an honest representation of my true wants, needs, and values.
