Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Hanson
Hi Stacy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Stacy Hanson and I am the owner (Wine Director & Managing Partner) of Grapeful Wine Bar. After a 30-yeare career in Corporate Marketing, I always dreamed of owning my own business. I would joke with friends, “When I quit my job and open a Wine Bar, we will have SO much fun!” Well, after 30 years, I actually did it! I combined my passion for wine, great food and bringing people together into Grapeful Wine Bar!
This truly has been a family effort! With my son as my partner, our family turned this dream into reality, bonding over our passion for bringing people together around a table and the stories told while enjoying each other’s company. We embarked on a journey to create a wine bar that feels like home yet offers an exploration into the world of wines. The idea was simple: to craft a space where every guest could experience the joy of discovering the perfect glass of wine. Together, we combined our insights, tastes, and dedication to detail, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere where every bottle has a story and every visit is an occasion. Grapeful Wine Bar isn’t just a business; it’s a heartfelt project that celebrates family, friendship, and the shared pleasure of great wine.
And my mother get full credit for the name “Grapeful”!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, the process went pretty smoothly. I started the process by meeting with every local business owner that would meet me for coffee and I asked SO many questions. The community was willing to help and share their advice with me. We partnered with a construction company to build out the space, found a wonderful architect to finalize the plans, and it all came together. Yes, there were obstacles, but we were able to work through them one at a time and find a solution.
I had to quickly learn all of the MN Department of Health and City regulations. I took the same approach, I met with the Community Development Director in Owatonna and the MN Department of Health and, again, asked questions and identified what I didn’t know. That would be my advice to anyone starting this process – Identify what you DON’T know right away!
The construction and inspection process were fairly new to me so that was a bigger learning curve!

We also offer beer, cider, THC beverages, and non-alcoholic options, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

At Grapeful Wine Bar, what matters most to me is creating a welcoming space where everyone feels at home—whether you’re a wine expert or just beginning to explore. I believe that great wine should be exciting, approachable, and, most of all, enjoyable, which is why our wine list is carefully curated with something for every palate—from familiar favorites to unexpected gems waiting to be discovered.
But more than just great wine, I want Grapeful to be a place where people come together—to share a bottle, a conversation, and a memorable experience with friends, family, or even our team. Wine should be fun, not intimidating, and I love helping guests experiment, learn, and find new favorites in a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. At the end of the day, it’s not just about what’s in the glass—it’s about the connections, the laughter, and the stories shared along the way.
