Today we’d like to introduce you to Suthisa Krupinski.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband, Joel and I started the restaurant since the inception with my Mom, On, that’s where the name came from, On’s Kitchen since 2009, My mom retired, then Joel and I took over in 2019. In between that time period, we operated a restaurant, Pad Ga Pow, in Downtown Minneapolis Skyway.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, after we took over in 2019, we have covid, riots, poor economy, and everything is always up and down, Rising homelessness and open drug use in the area. It has been a bumpy road.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
For me personally, Suthisa Krupinski, is cooking with my family in the kitchen. At the end of the day, we always cook together as a family. everyone has to contribute in the cooking process to make dinner. I learned majority of my skill from helping my aunts, and grandmas when we cook together.
I remembed the creamy and herby taste of Thai Green curry with tender beef. It’s full of kafir lime, galanga, garlic and lemongrass, cilantro root, white pepper, green chilies and basil leaves fragrants. Once it hit your nose, you can’t forget the flavor and the smell. It’s creamy, herby and the beef aroma just linger in my memory. It’s one of my favorites.
The Beef Nam Thok salad freshly grilled and made to order from the street stall is is unforgetable. The fish sauce, chilies, lime, roasted rice powder with thin sliced grilled beef tossed quickly with culantro, shallots, green onions, and cilantro, and dried roasted red chilies acommpanied with sticky rice and crunchy lettuce is like a comfort food for me when we do a family get together.
I came from a tropical place, but noodle soup such as wonton and egg noodle soup, tom yum noodle soup, rice poridge soup, ginger chicken with rice and soup, nam thok noodle soup are staple for our every day food. We can eat soup all day long. This is where I learned how to use chopsticks and mixing ingredients for my own bowl of soup at a young age.
Cooking with my family is what I treasure most, even until this day, my husband, Joel, my younger sisters and brother in laws all know how to cook our Thai family receipes. It is a must learn basis once you are in the family.
