Today we’d like to introduce you to Yana Stockman.
Hi Yana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
12 years ago, I landed at the airport in Minneapolis with 1 suitcase and a backpack. I had a one-way ticket to the United States leaving my home in Ukraine and having a life-changing opportunity from the University of Maine (International School of Social work) coming to Minnesota as a counselor to pursue International Social Work and Psychology, transferring to Duluth, MN. I was exploring the psychology field and coaching was in the early stages at the time.
Before coming to the US I had my Master’s in psychology and wanted an opportunity to learn and practice more in this field. It should feel like another exciting trip but without clarity on how to start life from scratch, leaving behind something familiar, start learning how to move forward without a journey that later helps me in my business.
After a few years of practice and working in Duluth, when my commitment and contract of internship came to the end I left America and returned back to Europe. Being in transition, traveling during that time and finding my passion I return to Minnesota with the goal to explore myself in a different industry than self-development. I find myself working for a local event company as a Director of operations and sales representative working with local venues, and vendors helping local businesses and the community overall to create events. Honing my entrepreneurial skills and great business perspective, my creative work approach inspired me to see entrepreneurship truly as an opportunity.
By focusing on a familiar niche — my life transitions, what brought me across continents several times in the first place, living through them, learning from them — I re-discover strong needs from people that are going through life changes and business challenges looking for clarity and confidence to achieve success.
15 years ago, I was studying and end ended up certified in Coaching practice in St.Petersburg, Russia, but at the time coaching was at the early stages of use as one of the effective tools of therapy.
Diving more into coaching in the US I was impressed this industry has grown.
-12 percent since 2012. It is valued at an estimated 2.4 billion and growing,
-$15 billion in 2019, with a total market value of $7.5 billion in the United States.
The market value is estimated to reach $20 billion by 2022, with an average annual growth rate of 6.7 percent from 2019 to 2022.
-99% of HR leaders see coaching as having a positive impact on the wider business. I truly believe in human potential and through the last several years I keep coming back to coaching by educating, motivating and creating more awareness about personal development.
And because Coaching applies psychological theories and concepts — its aim is to increase performance, achievement and well-being in individuals, teams and organizations -that was it for my future mission and vision. In addition, the coaching practice fits my personality. I live by it daily. I believe that self-discipline, positive thinking, goal setting and applied actions could unleash the power within anyone who will set their focus on it.
4 years ago with 1 client in my (CRM doing free workshops for the local community of professionals I started to talk about it and show the benefits and results of the investment. By practicing what I preach once I changed my strategy, mindset, and began thinking about how to authentically and powerfully guide my clients, my business, brand, and career grew within a year.
I market myself as an International coach, serving people on 4 continents in 3 languages I find more and more how we all strive to love, safety and belonging.
Speaking and supporting immigrant Summits, women entrepreneurial communities, entrepreneurial rallies, I was heard and now published, lunched a podcast, became a panel speaker for the entrepreneurial community.
Coming with 1 suitcase, starting life from “0” I start to apply a minimalistic approach (to strip down basic things like beliefs, and values to the essentials), and get to the root of a business challenge or a personal difficulty.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, first come to mind – uncertainty and no clear roadmap to accomplish what I wanted.
And being unclear about my vision, my focus was everywhere to adapt to a new culture, learn a new set of skills, and language, educating myself in a new mentality and culture.
It was the lack of strategy and action plan for how to move forward. Constantly looking at the top and comparing myself definitely was a disservice to going through struggles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Certified International life coach, motivational keynote speaker and host of the podcast Guidance to Personal Success (GPS), I have a Master’s in psychology. As a self-made entrepreneur, first-generation American, and first-generation entrepreneur. I know about life transitions and how to start leading a business and life from scratch. I help entrepreneurs, leaders who are in transition scaling or stuck to set clear goals and identify why they are not there yet. Declutter the headspace & organize a heart space by gaining clarity and confidence to achieve success.
I lived through the journey of essentialism and decluttering by starting life, and business from scratch with one suitcase and a back. My clear understanding and background in human behavior and processes as a psychologist make me a unique and experienced coach.
What are you most proud brand wise? Results of my clients is what makes a big difference in what I do, my method that works. Recognition of my brand, consistent media performance, my actions and words consistent with practical delivery.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
There can be many reasons – fear, other people’s opinion, lack of confidence, comparison, a background where we come from all the “should do’s” and more.
Get clear on these questions:
What do you want?
What do you need?
Who can help you to get there?
The energy that comes from clarity is infectious. It will bring you focus. Focus brings ideas. Ideas bring motivation. Motivation brings action. Action is forward motion towards your needs/wants/desires!
