We recently had the chance to connect with Grissel Hintz and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Grissel, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
People assume I work at a salon . Even though I did go to a cosmetology school and graduated. I also have a managers license that I continue to keep active . I do not work at a salon ! I am exclusively and only a hair stylist and a makeup artist.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an onsite , freelance Hmua for over 12 years . I travel all over the twin cities and beyond . Right now I work with a modeling agency privilege modeling as well as owning my own business . I also work with a variety of different photographers. One of my favorites Grinkie Photography in Saint Paul she focuses on vintage which is one of my favorite styles. I am bilingual Spanish /english . I am always taking classes to make sure I stay up to date with all the new trends . Constantly making sure that my technique is always consistent with trends. I specialize in bridal , classic and clean styles . Editorial, tv and film . I am trying to really get in to the quinceanera market I am taking classes to improve on my skills:)
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I started as an actress I went to acting school and had an agent in California . I decided that I would try the hair world and it was the best decision. I get to work in tv and still do what I love hair !
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I it definitely is a way to teach that you can always learn more. If things were easy , it would be boring . There would be no goals . Having to work for what I have has made me stronger has helped me become a better leader and a better business owner. Specially in the wedding industry it’s a tough one. You have to work hard to get anyone to notice you because the competition is fierce. I would love to teach someday it has prepared me to not be scared of anything
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My family and my business !
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope they tell that I loved what I do so much that I never stopped learning . That’s the one thing . Never think u know everything because when u do ur career is over .
