Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Wennerberg.
Hi Alyssa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I graduated with my Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in May 2017. Shortly after graduating, I began working at a nonprofit. I was an In-Home Family Therapist for 3 years before going to Outpatient Counseling. After 8 meaningful years serving clients within the nonprofit world, I opened up Authentic You PLLC. My time at my previous place of employment deeply shaped my values as a counselor. Those years not only shaped me professionally, but also personally. I was able to build a space where I could show up fully myself and support others doing the same thing.
Starting Authentic You allowed me to create a space to support clients in showing up fully as themselves and to provide thoughtful, affirming counseling rooted in authenticity, growth, and healing. I am beyond grateful to be where I am at today and continue to do work that aligns with who I am as a counselor.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Creating a counseling private practice has been a journey with both smooth paths and unexpected road bumps. There have been moments of excitement and clarity, when everything seemed to fall into place. There have been moments of uncertainty that required me to be patient, flexible, and just trust the process. This included, navigating insurance panels, insurance contracts, documentation requirements, setting fees, business hours while still trying to establish a sustainable business. I also had to navigate learning how to balance the roles of being a clinician, business owner, and marketer without losing the heart of what I do. I had to learn to set boundaries around availability, self-care, and learning to just “shut things off”. Each of these challenges has invited reflection, resilience, and a deeper alignment with my values as counselor.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Licensed Professional Certified Counselor (LPCC) in the states of MN and ND. I am the owner of Authentic You PLLC in Moorhead, MN. I see clients virtually and in person. I am also a Supervisor for Both MN and ND. I help future clinicians attain licensure. I work with adults, young adults, and kids. My approach to counseling involves collaboration, curiosity, compassion, and creating a space that will allow others to share their true selves. I value the therapeutic relationship and take a relational approach focusing on helping others build insight, resilience, and meaning change.
I have extensive experiences supporting clients navigating hardships, relationship difficulties, burnout, stressors, and the lasting impacts of past trauma experiences. I am known for using advanced interventions, like Brainspotting and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), to help clients release negative energy or somatic experiences that may make them feel stuck. I am proud to offer counseling that reflects my values of authenticity, connection, and compassionate care.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I am incredibly grateful to the clients, family, friends, and colleagues who supported me as I took the leap to create Authentic You PLLC. Your encouragement, trust, patience, and belief made this transition possible. Authentic You exists because of this collective support, and I am truly grateful for each and every person that helped make my business possible.
