Life & Work with Andrew Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Thomas.

Hi Andrew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’m from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Indian reservation in Minnesota. I began as making music at 8 years old when I began playing the piano. My beginnings as a pianist evolved into the role of music producer. Early in my career, I interned for Universal Music Group working with artists such as MGK, and went on a nationwide tour with Yo Ghotti. I’ve worked for many burgeoning MN talents such as J Plaza, Joe Jacob Lizea Harper MN Fats, etc. I created and run an independent record label PandaSonic Records along with being a solo pop act touring across the country.

I’m typically known for my melodic, hook-heavy production, relatable songs, and music videos, I try to bring a touch of honesty and humanity to my music. I write and produce my own music but I’ve worked with legendary names such as Brian McKnight, and Snoop Dogg.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Early in my career, I had no intention of becoming an artist myself I was content being a producer however I wanted to make songs for singers and I was working mainly in rap and hip hop so I didn’t know anybody who would sing my songs so I decided to become a singer myself.

Transitioning from a producer to an artist has been an interesting journey but it’s great to see both sides.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Most people would probably classify me as a pop singer.

I try and make honest and relatable music that is also catchy. And I take pride in that I produce and write my own music since it allows me to be creative and take more chances with my music.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Not sure I have a favorite childhood memory per se, I remember being in my room playing my keyboard for hours and I’m quite fond of those memories.

Perhaps a favorite memory of mine was traveling to south Dakotah and the black hills with my parents when I was younger.
