Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Sedesky.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
About 17 years ago, I signed up to volunteer in the bingo tent at Andover Family Fun Fest. The person in charge was going to be late, so I ended up running it by myself that very first year. I ran bingo for seven years and then transitioned into coordinator as our previous coordinator was going to retire from the committee.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have had a lot of turnover in the committee because I was looking to switch some things up instead of keeping things the way they had been running for the last 30 years. We’ve got a great team now and they are full of new ideas to help make Fun Fest better every year.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been a paraeducator in the Anoka-Hennepin ISD #11 since 2004. After 10 years at Hamilton Elementary, I subbed for about seven years, and now have found my permanent home at Andover High School. I love building relationships with the students and have a great support system with our staff.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I love how Andover has a small town feel for being a good size city. People are often shocked when I ask them if they have been to Fun Fest and then inform them that I am the coordinator.
