Life & Work with Casey Boyd of Richfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Boyd.

Hi Casey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started playing guitar when I was 12, after being inspired to pick it up by bands like Megadeth, Danzig, and Metallica. I had a band by the time I was in high school, and we got a decent amount of attention for our edgelord antics, even having all of our CDs confiscated by the school and being banned from selling them there. That band ended up transitioning into my current band, They Live, which has been playing shows, touring, and putting out music for quite a while now. We plan to release our next album, along with a few music videos this year.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not. Some of the struggles include car accidents out of state on tour, dealing with music industry lowlifes, keeping a solid band lineup, and pretty much anything else you might have seen on This Is Spinal Tap.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I play guitar and sing in my band. I also write the songs, along with our other singer Brandon Strate. We play dark, heavy punk music.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would advise anyone starting to always go against the grain and never try to fit in. I wish I knew that the common conception of success in the entertainment industry as mostly a matter of luck is bogus and that eighty percent of success is just showing up.
