Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanelle Peterson.
Hi Chanelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey has been shaped by both community and legacy. I grew up around Caribbean cultural events, influenced deeply by my parents and especially my grandmother, who was a founding member of Carifest and played a key role in building Caribbean community spaces long before it became what it is today. That early exposure gave me a strong sense of identity and showed me the power of culture to bring people together.
Over time, I found my place within that same space, supporting and helping organize Carifest and becoming more intentional about the impact of the work. Today, I focus on creating experiences that feel meaningful, inclusive, and rooted in community.
In many ways, I’m continuing something that was started long before me, but doing it in my own voice.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A lot of the work happens behind the scenes, and with that comes challenges like limited resources, time constraints, and the pressure of bringing something meaningful to life for the community. There have also been moments of figuring things out in real time, navigating logistics, building partnerships, and learning how to balance passion with sustainability.
At the same time, those challenges have been some of the most valuable parts of the journey. They’ve pushed me to grow, be more intentional, and stay grounded in why the work matters. Community work isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work professionally as a Regional Senior Case Manager at Ameriprise Financial, supporting RiverSource Life Insurance Company, where I specialize in navigating complex cases, problem-solving, and ensuring clients and advisors receive thoughtful, timely support. My role requires a high level of organization, communication, and attention to detail.
I’m known for being reliable, detail-oriented, and intentional—someone who can both execute and think about the bigger picture of how something feels and the impact it leaves behind.
Creatively, I’ve also explored modeling and am currently working on a novel, which allows me to express a different side of storytelling and personal growth.
What does success mean to you?
I define success by impact. For me, it’s about how I’m able to contribute to something bigger than myself, especially when it comes to impacting youth, building bridges within the community, and creating spaces where people feel connected. It’s not just about financial gain, but about meaningful growth, both in people and in the work itself.
Seeing connections happen organically and watching others grow and thrive is what really defines success for me.
