Life & Work with Clair Hamilton of Minneapolis, MN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clair Hamilton.

Hi Clair, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I came to naturopathic and Chinese medicine because I wanted something more from healthcare—something more whole, more human. I had this persistent sense that conventional models were missing the deeper layers of what makes people feel truly well. I wanted to practice a form of medicine that doesn’t just react to disease, but one that empowers people to understand themselves, their bodies, and the patterns behind their symptoms.

What I found in naturopathic and East Asian medicine was a philosophy and a clinical toolkit that honors both the science and the soul of healing. These approaches allow me to work with people in a way that’s deeply personal and proactive. We focus on the root of the issue, yes—but also on how to support vitality, adaptability, and long-term resilience.

I sit in a unique place in the healthcare landscape, bridging traditional and modern approaches. I often work in collaboration with conventional medicine—bringing in labs, diagnostics, or specialist care when needed—while also offering tools that reconnect people to the rhythms of their bodies and the deeper messages behind their symptoms.

My main mission is to make the experience of receiving healthcare to feel as human and personal as it is. It’s incredibly meaningful to me that I get to offer care that reflects how significant it is to be in a body, to help people better understand themselves, to heal, and to feel more like oneself again. That’s really what brought me here, and what keeps me inspired every day in practice.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well, as they say, nothing worthwhile comes easily. I think that holds true for my training and my practice as a whole.

One of the most difficult aspects of practicing today is witnessing just how many people are caught in the gaps of our healthcare system—paying high premiums and deductibles, yet still feeling under-treated, dismissed, or left without meaningful answers. That’s incredibly hard to watch, and it’s one of the reasons I continue to work outside of the conventional system. I want to offer care that’s not dictated by insurance codes or time limits, but by what someone actually needs to feel better.

At the same time, we’re also living in an era of information overload—especially in the integrative and holistic health space. There’s so much advice out there, and not all of it is personally applicable or even safe. It can leave people feeling confused, disoriented, or like they’re constantly chasing the next solution. That’s why I place so much value on really listening and getting to know my patients. It allows me to understand the full landscape of their health, cut through the noise, and offer personalized, grounded guidance that’s tailored to them.

My goal is always to help people make their efforts in healthcare work as hard as possible for them—whether that means supporting them with root-cause care, offering insights that simplify their approach, or working alongside their other providers to make sure nothing is missed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My practice focus is wide-ranging, which reflects my approach to the body as a deeply interconnected and intelligent system. I often treat complex digestive symptoms, hormonal imbalances, mental-emotional conditions, musculoskeletal injuries / pain patterns, and many other symptom pictures that haven’t responded to other approaches.

I would say that the combination of both naturopathic medicine and East Asian medicine is unique, especially here in Minnesota. It’s beautiful to be able to offer these ways of seeing and treating the body to this community.

What I’m most proud of is the quality of the relationships I build with patients. My practice grounded in care, collaboration, and genuine curiosity. It’s an honor to see people deepen their sense of personal empowerment and knowledge of themselves over time and to see it translate to feeling more at home in their bodies and lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is seeing people come into a more connected and trusting relationship with their bodies. Mainstream culture often teaches us to override or ignore what our bodies are telling us—so it’s a profound thing when we begin to really listen inward and recognize our body as a source of wisdom.

That kind of mind-body coherence doesn’t just improve symptoms—it creates a more honest, grounded way of being in the world. It’s one of the things I care about most, so it fills me up every time I witness it unfolding.

I’m in constant awe of the body’s strength, awareness, and intelligence. My longstanding yoga practice has evolved alongside me through many chapters of life. I get real joy from being in immersive nature experiences that help me connect with my own body and feel that aliveness. The occasional surf trip is a special form of healing for me, a joyful way of celebrating what my body is capable of and connecting with the ocean. Over the past couple of years, I’ve also been deepening my relationship with music, the voice, and sound as modes of healing and expression.
