Today we’d like to introduce you to Daijah Moore.
Hi Daijah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved to bake! When my mother would bake cakes for church; I would go in the kitchen to help. In high school, I used to take homemade fudge. I would make different brownies or cookies for my family. Then I moved to Saint Cloud a little over a year ago. I moved to Saint Cloud after I graduated from University of Missouri-Kansas City with Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry and a minor in Spanish with a Pre-Medicine concentration.
My daughter was born almost a year ago and I thought I was only going to be off work for 12 weeks. I have been out of work for almost eight months. During these eight months, I had no income so, I started thinking what can I do to make money and be at home with her. That is when I decided to start selling baked goods! I started a YouTube channel four months ago. I do baking tutorials of things I make and the few times when I do get orders. My goal was when I started my channel, was to show people the first time you try something new it is not always perfect, but you can perfect it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth. When I first had the idea, I had this fairytale mindset; that orders would be pouring in, I could make a little money for myself and my daughter and it would be sustainable temporarily. The reality is, I do not get many orders, which frustrates me. I pray that God will bring me exposure and what he thinks is best for me! When I do get frustrated I pray and thank God for the support system he has given me: my daughter, boyfriend, parents, family and my church family!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a home baker. I have no professional experience, everything I have learned is from myself, my mom, YouTube and any ideas I see on social media. That is how I try to set myself apart from others. When I am learning I want to help others learn.
This is the reason I started my a YouTube channel, to show what it looks like when you do something for the first time or how I have perfected something. I do not specialize in one thing because I like to have a wide variety of skills and be amazing at all of them! I am proud of myself because even though it is not how I expected financially; I have continued to learn, build my skill set and have confidence in myself that I can do anything I put my mind to!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was an active child. I was always involved in some activity: dance, gymnastics, church, school, volunteer and many other things. I was outgoing, intelligent, church going and loving! This has molded me into the person I am today! One interest that has stuck with me is Spanish. I took Spanish one year in middle school, all four years of high school, almost every semester in college and I am teaching my daughter now. I want to instill in her what was instilled in me, when I was younger.
