Life & Work with Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Wangen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Wangen.

Hi Libby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My cosmetology journey began in 2014 at The Cosmetology Training Center in Mankato, MN. After graduating, I started my first job at the Regis Salon in the River Hills Mall. I was there for a little over a year when I decided to move to Baxter’s Hair Shop. The five years I spent at Baxter’s was when I really fell in love with doing hair. Helping people increase their confidence and feel their best is extremely rewarding and it’s what motivates me. In the summer of 2021, I decided it was time to branch out on my own. I opened Elizabeth Wangen Hair LLC in the Vida Salon Suites. Thanks to my amazing, loyal clientele, it has been an exciting and successful venture. I love this career and I am so excited to see what the future brings.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am happy to say that the road has been mostly smooth for me. The biggest bump in the road so far has been Covid. To keep people safe, I had to close my salon for two and a half months. It was a scary time with so many unknowns. Once my salon opened back up, I had to implement new policies to keep myself and my clients safe. Other than that, I, fortunately, have not had too many struggles. I attribute that to my loyal clientele that I have grown over the years, in part through successful social media marketing. I also actively work to grow my skill set so that  I can expand the services that I can offer to my clients. For example, I recently added luxury hand-tied hair extensions to my offerings.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I don’t necessarily specialize in a specific thing, I just love all things hair. If I were to choose, though, I love coloring hair. Balayage is my favorite technique to do because it looks so natural. It grows out so seamlessly that you don’t have to get it retouched for six months or more. It’s great for people wanting a low-maintenance color.  I recently learned the technique of beaded-row extensions, more commonly known as hand-tied hair extensions. This has quickly become a favorite service of mine to offer. The way it transforms my clients hair is amazing to me! This service makes me stand out as there are only a few salons that offer it in the area.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is that my clients leave my chair feeling their best. There is no greater feeling than seeing someone light up after you turn them around and show them the finished product.
