Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Braverman.
Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved cameras! Wanted to study cinematography my whole life, originally to direct horror movies in mind – my style was Eli Roth meets Tim Burton, or something odd like that.
In 2016, things took a turn in a different direction. I posted on Craigslist, advertising affordable photography services – some side income, basically taking advantage of my access to school cameras. Through there I got a request to shoot a wedding, $30/hour was not something a college student would pass up.
Honestly was not prepared at all, but regardless of any mistakes that day – I realized I really, really enjoyed myself. I was hooked and wanted to do more weddings. I’m currently capturing weddings full-time, all over Minnesota. After photographing over 200 couples, I can honestly say I found my calling.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever smooth. The wedding industry is saturated with photographers so finding my style was crucial and took years.
I think that was the toughest part – discovering your uniqueness, while also staying in trend. It’s hard to find a middle ground between the two.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Wedding and engagement photographer serving the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, upper Midwest, and north shores, Minnesota. My clients become my friends and they are my absolute priority. I’m available for my clients 24/7 via text to answer any wedding-related questions. Tell me what’s important to you on your wedding day and that will be my main priority.
I’m not shy and I know how to capture the right shots. I photograph weddings for the couples that I mesh well with. We’ll have fun, we’ll take tequila shots and we’ll create an amazing wedding album. Your love is unique and doesn’t need to be photographed the same way as everyone else’s.
Whether you and your person are witty and flirty, dark and mysterious, romantic and soft, or anything in between I strive to capture your authentic selves through a mix of documentary and editorial photography. This means you will have a strong mix of candid memories and directed poses. The story of your wedding day will be captured honestly yet artistically.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Learned the world is unpredictable, everything can change at any point.
