Life & Work with James Dotzler of Minneapolis

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Dotzler.

Hi James, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
MVRROW was Formed in late 2019 as a side project between Paige and I as I was the drummer in her rock before MVRROW and I wanted a project where I was on guitar. We recruited a bunch of friends to fill out the lineup, had a bunch of shows lined up for 2020 and our first was supposed to be march 16th, pretty much the day everything shut down.

So we spent the next year or so self releasing music and music videos and writing songs. Just kind of trying to navigate that whole thing.

The end of 2021 we were able to actually start playing shows and really get out there. Our first show was at the Minnesota music cafe with Endless Reign and since then we’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with hundreds of amazing bands from across the Midwest as well as Born of Osiris, Atreyu, Hed PE, Warrant, and even got to play the 2023 Rockfest in Cadott, WI.

This year has been nothing short of exciting as well as we have recently signed with Obsidian Cult Records and have released 2 singles, Red lights and Empty Entity (go with the videos they’re super cool)

This answer was very long my apologies lol.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest hurdle was being a band that started right before covid. Not knowing if we would ever be able to do live music again was super scary.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re on the harder side of rock. We’re a 5 peice female led band and we’ve really spent a lot of time trying to hone in on what we are as an identity as well as a sound. I’d say what We’re most proud of is the work we’ve done with the Pohl Children’s Foundation. Having such a strong focus on mental health and suicide awareness has resonated in every aspect of what we do. The Pohl Children’s Foundation has helped more than 400 families who have lost family members and thats no small feat. Its a hard thing to approach and talk about but for us and with the Pohl Children’s Foundation we want people to be able to have every resource to help with whatever it is they’re going through.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Suz Pohl from the Pohl Children’s Foundation for being an amazing person and helping us and so many others.

Shawn Hopman from Ya Sure Kombucha for creating a space in a small town where people can come together and just have a space for music to exist

Richard Lupu from Sampaguita for creating a space where you can just be, in any form and just exsist as you are as well as creating a space for music.

The crew at 94rocks for being huge supporters and giving us radio play and being overall amazing people

Ken Bartz from KENZFM out in fargo, he was the first person that gave our band a chance and we got to even do our first radio interview/live performance. Ken recently passed away but we will never forget him as well as most of the musicians all around Fargo.

Mattie Smith from Obsidian Cult records for taking a chance on a few dorks out of Minnesota, you are a real one and the mission you have with the label is incredible.

Honestly there are so many people that have been instrumental to this. For anyone that isn’t named just know we love you and appreciate everything you’ve done and are doing.
