Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Dailey.
Hi Jenna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! I am a Korean adoptee that has lived in Minnesota for the vast majority of my life. I grew up in Golden Valley, and currently reside in Minneapolis. I graduated from Hopkins High School and then went on to earn a degree at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in Strategic Communications-Advertising and Management. I consider myself a “right-brainer”, if you will, and have always enjoyed and sought out any opportunity to put my imagination and creativity to work. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, so I caught the entrepreneurship bug early. I got my hustle from my mom, dad and brother.
The great privilege to travel all around the U.S. and the world has been one of the biggest factors in shaping who I am and what I do; I never feel more alive or inspired than when I’m exploring and adventuring. Getting to know new places, people and ways of life have expanded my perspectives and have shaped my values.
Another passion of mine is people. I love getting to know what excites others and what gets them up each morning. I find endless inspiration in the incredible humans I’ve come across in my almost three decades on earth. I consider myself somewhat of a cheerleader, a hype girl. I love to build relationships, connect people and lift them up. It brings me so much joy to see people I care about thriving and doing what sets their souls on fire. With that said, I would not be where I’m at today without the support of my family, friends, mentors and the rest of my extraordinary support system.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The older I get, the more I realize that life rarely ever goes as planned–but that’s where the magic happens. Every time I’ve come across a speed bump or roadblock, I’ve had to think on my feet and figure out new ways of moving toward my goals and aspirations. Every rejection or redirection (and trust me, there have been many!) has taught me invaluable lessons about myself and my place in this world. While there is obvious value in getting things right, getting it wrong is where I’ve learned and grown the most.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For the past six years, I’ve been working in the cannabis industry in marketing for what I consider my 9-to-5; I specialize in social media and branding. In the roles I’ve held I’ve worn many hats and dabbled in events, merchandising, patient outreach, email marketing and public relations. For my 5-to-9s, I’m a yoga teacher and a freelance photographer. I’m really proud of all of it, to be honest. Cannabis, yoga and photography are all things that I’m passionate about and I’m grateful to be able to pursue all of them simultaneously. The common threads that connect all these things are that I get to exercise my creativity and I get to connect with so many incredible humans. I believe what sets me apart is that I truly pour my heart and soul into all of the work I do, and I have a wide array of skills and interests versus being specialized in one area.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Go wherever your curiosities take you. Ask all the questions. There is a lesson to be learned from every single encounter and experience. Explore. Don’t be afraid of taking chances and making mistakes, those are what will teach you the most and help shape you into the person and professional you aspire to be. The path to where you will feel most inspired and fulfilled is not linear, so don’t worry when you encounter speed bumps, road blocks and rejections (or as I like to phrase it, redirections). You’ll get to where you want to be, or perhaps somewhere better than you could have imagined, you just have to trust that your patience and perseverance will pay off. And don’t pay too much attention to what other people are doing or what they want for you–focus on yourself and what makes you come alive.
