Today we’d like to introduce you to John Olesen.
Hi John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved art and creating. I started blowing glass in the early 1980s at Anoka Ramsey CC and apprenticed in New York. My first studio was in Santa Barbara, CA. I’ve worked in other studios in the Minneapolis area before building my current studio in 2002.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
After a successful run in CA, I returned to school to study art.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make a lot of wine and martini glasses. I like the idea of making something people will use and enjoy, and I have several original designs that enhance the experience. Barware is my bread and butter work; I also enjoy making one-of-a-kind wall sculptures for public art and private purchases.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I had a concise career as a stockbroker in the early 1990s
