Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaliyah Bland.
Hi Kaliyah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for hair has been there since I was a little girl. My mom was the family stylist, so I watched her do her hair all the time. I loved getting my hair done all the time. I don’t recall being the kid who didn’t. Also, my mom always kept my hair up, too, making me fall in love with it. Once I got older and reached the age where I could start doing styles myself, I did my hair every week or maybe every day. I began to notice how my passion for it & thought about selling hair simply because I love quality hair! So, with hair of sale, I got my first batch in 2021 and, along with that, got my first LLC, “LENGTHSBYLIYAH,” I sold out quickly! So that was going well for me. Once I started selling hair, I wanted to start practicing hair on other people. I’ve done my family & friend’s hair sometimes but nothing serious. I did my first frontal in 2019. I also colored it, but the frontal was horrible, lol. Since then, I’ve been doing hair from home, taking clients in a few days. I ended up getting pregnant with my daughter, which gave me a different outlook on life. So, while continuing to do hair, I’ve decided to change the name to KAMÓR EXTENSIONS / KALIYAHS KREATIONS. Kamór comes from the play on letters from my daughter’s name. Currently, I’m in the works of getting hair on hand since everything is in order! I want to bring a suite in the future, but now it’s all about elevation for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it’s not smooth at all! There are ups and downs, like getting less support from people than you’d think. I do not have clientele and am budgeting to have hair on hand. Doing hair from home also comes with its struggles as well. A significant incident was when I got robbed for my hair on hand back in 2022, which is why I stopped having hair on hand. It just lowered my confidence in things.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I do hair. Wigs, sew-ins, quick weaves, ponytails, etc! I’m most known for my wigs since I do those most often. I’m proud of my growth over these few months! I generally set myself apart and how I run my business.
