Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Nelson.
Hi Katie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Since I can remember, I’ve always loved to read and write. I wrote my first story in first grade. It was a horrible mystery, but I loved creating it. I’m most inspired by the places I’ve lived or visited and of course, the many amazing books I’ve read. Last year, I released my first two rom-com novellas called Seeking Real Life Irish Romcom and Love Like Dandelion Roots. On January 20, 2023, I’ll be releasing my debut full-length rom-com, Just a Thing We Do. I’m super excited to share this latest story with readers!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a writer, there are so many potential obstacles and challenges. The hardest part for me was getting started. I’ve been thinking of story ideas for years, but the turning point came when I actually sat down and started typing. That’s the biggest thing that I find myself telling others.
If you’ve dreamed of writing a book, just start writing! Once the story is rolling, self-doubt tends to creep in and also fatigue. The amount of time and discipline it takes to finish a longer-form story can be daunting. I often ask myself, is all of this worth it? Hearing someone enjoy one of my books is so encouraging and gives me the motivation to continue. Also, prayer. Writing for me takes a lot of prayers!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an indie romcom author specializing in the New Adult fiction genre. New Adult fiction is an emerging genre that focuses on characters in the 18-30 age range.
My goal is to create stories that are clean, sweet, funny, and full of heart. I think what sets me apart from others is that I love to explore family dynamics and how life can be complicated, but full of humor and beauty as well. I’m most proud of the fact that I put in the work and actually wrote the stories that have been living in my head for years.
I’m also proud to be a part of the #Bookstagram community and am so grateful for the friendships I’ve formed there.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I don’t believe in luck, but I do believe in the grace of God.
I know that He has opened up doors for me and led me to where I am today. For example, out of millions of people on Instagram, I got connected very early on with my amazing editor who has become a good friend. Her encouragement and insight have been invaluable to my success.
