Life & Work with Kelly Barry-Miller of Prior Lake, MN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Barry-Miller.

Hi Kelly , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Believe it or not I started out as a Homeschool Mom and Teacher, and as my daughter grew up I really considered what I wanted to do as a career path. We were deeply faith-filled and family oriented, so when I got the call to start in the film world as an actress and photographer . . . it rocked our world and caused a bit of a Tsunami with my family life. I’ve been doing photography most of my life, so it wasn’t a big transition from hobby to professional, but the film part was a leap into the unknown.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely in NO way was it a smooth road, in fact I hit obstacles along every step, whether it be family members who were against my transition into film and photography or friends who wanted me to remain as I was. Then there were the people who preyed on others in the industry. I had to sift through it all and stay true to my heart’s call to follow my dreams, while keeping integrity, and using wisdom as to who I should connect with, and who should be kept at arm’s length. It was a battle I never foresaw, but I kept pushing through.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the Owner and Creative Director for Amore Lux Studios, which is a full-service photography company that specializes in Behind-The-Scenes Film photography, live music events, weddings, and commercial photography. I am also an award-winning film actress with more than 20 films on my IMDB (Internet Movie Database). I love helping my community, providing photos that will provide a legacy of memories, and treating clients like family. As well as honing my craft of acting to move the spirit and effect lives in a positive way. It is part of bypassing the real world and entering a world that truly transcends.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Always, always have people you can go to for wise counsel, who have been in the genre you are currently in, so they can give you wisdom. I have several mentors who have helped me along the way. Many times you don’t have to find a mentor, they find you, and God has a way of putting the right people in your path that you need at the right time.

Keep believing, keep doing the inner work, and keep honing your craft, while caring for others. It will line up eventually with synchronicity.
