Today we’d like to introduce you to Kieran Black.
Hi Kieran, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had the creative spirit and started with photography when I was 16. Capturing movement, feelings and preserving moments in time has always been important to me. My business began when I was 17 after shooting with many friends and family for different art concepts and milestones. It’s transformed through the years as my art has changed and my passions of female empowerment became priority to me as a person. I mainly shoot boudoir out of my studio in Saint Paul but still also shoot with couples for date night sessions or weddings.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think any business really had a smooth road but I am extremely grateful for the support andlove I have received and it has helped me build up my confidence as a career artist and has pushed me into taking leaps of faith when I didn’t know if art could actually pay my bills. There will always be struggles but keeping that hope and confidence alive helps every step.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in empowerment boudoir and couples photography. My style is dark and moody yet rich in color. My studio is very whimsigoth, if thats a term people still use. Lots of black, moody vibes with touches of victorian era furnture and decor. I think I’m most known for my gothic vibes that my art has. I’m very into horror aspects, dark edits and certain concepts that I don’t think too many photographers would do when doing “female empowerment”. I’m well known for my blood shoots and spooky vibes as well. I’m very proud of being a sex positive, creepy, safe place for weirdos to come hangout, have a good time and embrace every part of themselves.
What’s next?
I’m always changing the studio, creating more spaces and amping up the creative factors. At this exact moment I am building out a new greenhouse set with a haunted Greek garden vibe with statues, chandeliers and spooky but romantic garden vibes.
