Life & Work with KT Brown of Downtown River Falls

Today we’d like to introduce you to KT Brown.

KT Brown

Hi KT, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started working at a hair salon in high school as a receptionist and that started my passion for the hair industry. After High School I attended and graduated from the U of M and was a receptionist at a hair salon while getting my degree. A month after I graduated college, I started beauty school. I have been doing hair for almost 20 years with a few of those years being a travelling educator as well. From Minneapolis MN, to River Falls WI, I have enjoyed meeting and servicing many clients. 4 years ago I took the leap of faith and opened up The Wild Hare Salon. A one person shop where everyone is welcome.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It can be a tough start in the beauty industry. At first I worked 7 days a week in order to build my clientele. I worked many nights and weekends and missed out on events due to trying to build my career. But the work paid off and I have many wonderful people who come to see me. Covid was also a difficult time as we were forced to shut down. It was difficult both mentally and financially. Doing hair is my passion and I felt lost not being able to go to work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am best known for my color services and children’s haircuts at The Wild Hare Salon. I love doing all colors and have a special liking for vivid and creative color services. I often have my rabbit, Osiris with me at the shop and kids love to see him when they come and get their hair cut. I am a very down to Earth person who accepts everyone for who there are when they sit in my chair. I love the comfortable and private atmosphere I have created at my shop.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am a single Mother of two beautiful girls. Celeste (CeCe) and Raelyn (RaeRae) are what keep me going every single day.
