Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylie Miller.
Hi Kylie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My family has always been into taking photos around the home for fun, and I got my first digital camera for my 7th birthday. As a young girl, I got into photography through my local 4h. I started taking photos that would be displayed at the Isanti County Fair and as I got older my photos began making their way to the Minnesota State Fair where I started winning ribbons with them.
During my senior photos, I talked to the photographer who did them and he invited me to intern with him. After I graduated high school, I was planning on becoming a vet, but decided I wasn’t interested in going to school for that long so started interning for the photographer.
After a couple of years, I had built my business up on my own and branched off. I now have my studio on our farm and love what I do!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has had ups and downs.
Some of the biggest challenges I have had to overcome were finding clients in such a competitive industry, finding shooting locations, and mostly finding the time to dedicate to my business in the midst of getting married, creating a family, and being a stay-at-home mom of two.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I consider myself a lifestyle photographer. I specialize in creating intentional storytelling experiences for my maternity, newborn/baby milestone, family, couples, and wedding clients. I am so proud of how I can capture such real and raw emotion in my photos and make it FUN!
I think one thing that separates me from most is the fact that I can get certain posed photos, but still focus on the story and details of the session without it being a stiff look-at-the-camera smile type photo.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
It can be really hard to try and balance home life and business life. I am still learning every day, but it is so worth it.
If you’re interested in starting a business make sure you have support, then go for it!
