Today we’d like to introduce you to Makayla Gill
Hi Makayla, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started doing photography as young as 14. I always had a camera with me everywhere I went. In high school I would do photoshoots with my friends for their Instagram. And through me posting about that, other people saw my work and reached out to work with me. That is what got me to start my photography business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So far, it has been very smooth. The only “issue” is just weather. Minnesota can be up and down with the weather and whenever the sun is out I’m seeing if anyone wants to shoot outside. Or if its rainy or snowy I get busy with studio shoots.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer. I specialize in fashion and portrait photography, but I have been getting more into branded shoots along with engagement and wedding shoots I am most known for my portrait style photos. I am the most proud of how successful my business has become in the past year since I launched Makayla’s JPG. Along with being able to shoot my best friends engagement and wedding photos. That was a huge deal for me. What sets me apart is just my vison when it comes to photography. I come up with concepts for shoots and bring them to life, to give my clients their dream photos.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Just do it! If it is truly something you love and you feel confident in your work, go for it! And whatever it is your going for, for example photography, reach out to other photographers and introduce yourself and make friends with other creatives! Build up your community!
