Today we’d like to introduce you to Maniphone Jones.
Hi Maniphone, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started when my daughter and I wanted to find something new to do together during Covid, when it seemed as though the world shut down.
Kamea and I enjoyed sewing together so much that we decided to start sewing baby turbans as our new hobby. We posted our work on social media and to our surprise, many women reached out to purchase them. Shortly after, women begin requesting adult-size turbans, and of course, my daughter and I accepted the challenge!
We posted our first adult-size turban on social media and within minutes my inbox begin to flood with requests from women wanting to purchase not just 1 turban but 5 to 6 at a time! They absolutely loved them! We couldn’t believe it! We had customers willing to wait weeks for their hand-made turbans. We had women reaching out from all over the US placing orders. Then multiple businesses began inquiring to purchase large wholesale orders. We soon became bombarded with to many orders to keep up with the demand, my husband Leo quickly came to the rescue to assist!
We soon created an office space in the garage because we needed the extra space, we literally sewed all day long. It was fun to work with my family but I can’t deny it, it became so overwhelming I had to start turning down customers because we were so backlogged with orders and I could tell my daughter and husband were stressed out due to the workload. As of now, my daughter helps sew when she wants to make money or simply has the urge to create. As for me I still sew turbans but I know my limit and don’t overwhelm myself with too many orders that way I can continue to enjoy doing what I love which is being creative. When the time comes for me to produce on a large scale, I know my customers will be ready to order!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The only challenge we had was keeping up with the demand.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to think of myself as a woman with many creative talents. I enjoy sewing, making custom products and decorating. I’m most proud of the dedication I give to anything I decide to do. What sets me apart from others is the love and passion I put into my craft and the outstanding customer service I provide to each of my amazing customers.
