Life & Work with Mark Petersen and Andrea Eichmann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Petersen and Andrea Eichmann.

Hi Mark/Andrea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT started with a simple observation: there are thousands of organizations, resources, and programs available for veterans and first responders, yet many of the people who need them most either don’t know they exist, don’t know how to access them, or become overwhelmed trying to navigate them.

Through military service, first responder service, education, and years of working within our communities, WE repeatedly saw good people struggling to find the right support at the right time. The problem wasn’t necessarily a lack of resources. The problem was that the information was scattered, disconnected, and difficult to navigate when people were already carrying heavy burdens.

Rather than creating another program that duplicated existing efforts, WE saw an opportunity to become a connector. THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT was founded on the belief that by building relationships, highlighting organizations already doing great work, and creating a network of support, WE could help simplify the journey for veterans, first responders, and their families.

What began as conversations about how to better connect people with resources quickly evolved into a larger mission. WE started building relationships with boots-on-the-ground organizations, community leaders, businesses, influencers, musicians, and educators who shared the same desire to serve those who have served.

As those relationships grew, so did the vision. Media became one of our most powerful tools. Through podcasts, livestreams, radio programming, and community outreach, WE found a way to amplify the voices of organizations and individuals making a difference while helping veterans and first responders discover resources, opportunities, and communities they may never have known existed.

Today, THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT continues to grow from that same foundation. Our mission has never changed. WE are committed to building the most inclusive and thorough network of education, resources, and support possible while serving as a beacon of hope and opportunity for veterans, first responders, and their families.

In short, THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT started because WE saw confusion where there should have been clarity, isolation where there should have been community, and obstacles where there should have been opportunities. WE believed there was a better way to connect people with the help they needed, and that belief continues to drive everything WE do today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road, and in many ways, that is what has shaped THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT into what it is today.

One of the biggest challenges has been building something that is larger than any one individual. When you are trying to create a mission-driven organization, especially one focused on serving veterans and first responders, you quickly realize that passion alone is not enough. It takes committed people, partnerships, resources, and a tremendous amount of persistence.

Early on, one of our biggest obstacles was simply earning trust and building relationships. There are many great organizations already doing incredible work, and we had to demonstrate that WE were not looking to compete with them—we wanted to support them, amplify their efforts, and help connect people to the resources they provide.

Like many nonprofits, funding and resources have also been ongoing challenges. There is always more work to do than there are hours in the day, and there are always more people who need support than there are resources available. Building programs, creating content, organizing events, and maintaining momentum all require significant effort from a team that is often balancing careers, families, and other responsibilities.

Another challenge has been finding people who are willing to do the work required to build something meaningful. Many people support the mission in principle, but building a lasting organization requires consistent action, accountability, communication, and follow-through. WE have learned that having the right people on the team is far more important than simply having a large team.

There have also been moments when opportunities appeared larger than our current capacity. Those moments forced us to evaluate what was best for the mission, where our resources should be focused, and whether an opportunity aligned with our long-term vision. Those decisions are not always easy, but they are necessary if the mission is going to remain sustainable.

Through every challenge, however, the mission has remained bigger than the obstacles. Each setback has provided lessons, strengthened relationships, and reinforced why THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT exists in the first place. The struggles have never changed our belief that veterans, first responders, and their families deserve a strong network of support, education, resources, and opportunity.

If anything, the challenges have confirmed that the work is needed and that the mission is worth pursuing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One of the things that makes THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT special is the team behind it. While the organization may have started with a vision, it has grown because of a dedicated group of individuals who bring unique experiences, talents, and perspectives to the mission.

Our team includes veterans, first responders, educators, community leaders, media professionals, musicians, advocates, and volunteers who all share a common belief: service does not end when the uniform comes off. Each member brings their own expertise and passion to help build something larger than themselves.

Together, the WeP3 team has been involved in producing and hosting hundreds of hours of content through WE GOT YOUR 6 @ 6:00, WeP3 RADIO, and the WeP3 Weekly Debrief. Through these platforms, WE have highlighted organizations, shared resources, celebrated veterans and first responders, amplified musicians who have served, and connected audiences with people making a difference in communities across the country.

The team has also played a significant role in expanding our community outreach efforts. From supporting veterans and first responders directly, to participating in community events, to building partnerships with organizations throughout Minnesota and beyond, our members are constantly working to strengthen the network of support available to those we serve.

One area where the team’s dedication is especially visible is our involvement with Wreaths Across America at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Team members have helped coordinate outreach efforts, build community partnerships, educate the public, recruit volunteers, and work toward the goal of honoring every service member laid to rest at Fort Snelling.

The team has also been instrumental in developing new initiatives such as the Sentinel Education Program, which focuses on teaching future generations about service, sacrifice, and the importance of remembering our nation’s heroes. Additionally, WE continue to build long-term projects such as the Graphene Dome initiative, which aims to create one of the most comprehensive networks of education, resources, and support for veterans and first responders.

What makes the WeP3 team unique is that no one is seeking recognition for themselves. The mission is always bigger than any individual. Everyone involved understands that success is measured by the lives impacted, the organizations strengthened, the partnerships created, and the opportunities provided to veterans, first responders, and their families.

At the end of the day, the greatest accomplishment of THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT is not a program, event, or broadcast. It is the team of people who continue to show up, put service before self, and work tirelessly to build a beacon of hope and opportunity for others.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the biggest lessons WE have learned is that networking is not about collecting contacts—it’s about building relationships. The strongest partnerships and opportunities that have come to THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT did not come from asking, “What can this person do for us?” They came from asking, “How can WE support each other and advance the mission together?”

When it comes to finding a mentor, look for someone whose actions match their words. There are many people who talk about success, leadership, and service, but the best mentors are the ones who consistently demonstrate those qualities. Pay attention to how they treat people, how they handle adversity, and whether they are actively doing the work they encourage others to do.

Another piece of advice is to be willing to show up before you need something. Volunteer. Attend events. Support organizations. Promote other people’s successes. Build genuine relationships long before you ask for help. Many of the relationships that have helped THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT grow were built through years of showing up, serving alongside others, and finding ways to contribute to their mission as well.

WE have also found tremendous value in surrounding ourselves with people who have different skill sets and experiences. No one person has all the answers. Some mentors have helped us understand nonprofit operations, others have helped with media and communications, event planning, fundraising, education, leadership, or community engagement. The more diverse your network, the more perspectives you gain.

Most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask questions and don’t be afraid to hear answers you may not like. Growth often comes from constructive criticism and honest feedback. Some of the most valuable guidance WE have received came from people who challenged our assumptions and pushed us to think differently.

What has worked best for us is staying mission-focused. When people see that you are genuinely committed to serving others, following through on your commitments, and working toward something bigger than yourself, relationships tend to develop naturally. Trust is built through consistency, and over time that trust becomes the foundation for mentorship, partnerships, and opportunities.

At THE PEOPLE’S PATRIOT PROJECT, many of our strongest relationships started with a simple conversation, a shared purpose, and a willingness to serve. That’s still the approach WE take today.
