Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Lyon
Hi Natalie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2012, I took a leap of faith and opened my own insurance agency. I was searching for more than just a job—I wanted a career where hard work translated into real rewards, both for myself and the people I served. I’ve always loved working with people, but I wanted to create something bigger: a business built on relationships, not transactions.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of assembling a fantastic team and becoming a trusted resource in our local community. We strive to make insurance feel less like a chore and more like a conversation—one where clients feel heard, valued, and confident in their coverage. Our office is designed to be a welcoming and inclusive space, where everyone, from first-time homeowners to growing families and small business owners, can find the right protection for their needs.
About four years ago, I had the chance to buy the office building where we work today. That’s when I discovered a fun piece of history: in the 1970s, this very space was the music studio of the legendary artist Prince! It’s pretty incredible to think that a place once filled with creativity and passion now houses a team just as dedicated—this time, to protecting what matters most to our clients.
Located off 28th Ave S, just east of Lake Nokomis, our agency is easy to find and ready to help. Whether it’s auto, home, renters, condo, life, small business, or coverage for recreational toys, we’ve got you covered. More than anything, we’re here to build lasting relationships and make insurance feel a little more personal.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. Leaving a steady corporate job with a guaranteed salary to dive into a brand-new industry where I was paid commission only was a huge risk. I had no prior business experience, so navigating licensing, learning the industry, and starting an agency from scratch was overwhelming. The first three years were the hardest—there were strict sales requirements I had to meet just to continue in the program, and the pressure was intense. But looking back, it was all worth it. It pushed me, tested my work ethic, and proved what I was capable of.
One thing that kept me going was seeing seasoned agents who had been in the industry for 40+ years. It was clear that insurance wasn’t just about policies—it was about the relationships you build and the impact you have on people’s lives. That realization solidified my commitment to making this work.
Staffing has been another ongoing challenge. Finding the right people—those who are knowledgeable, hardworking, and a good fit for our agency culture—isn’t easy. The insurance industry requires licensing, which means there’s a lot of upfront effort before someone even starts their first day. That hurdle can make it difficult to attract new talent. But despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. It’s been incredibly rewarding to build a business that truly helps people and creates lasting connections.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At my local Farmers Insurance agency, we specialize in home insurance, working closely with Realtors and lenders to be a trusted resource for their clients—especially first-time homebuyers and move-up buyers. Our approach is both educational and relationship-focused, ensuring that clients truly understand their coverage and feel confident in their choices. We also offer customizable home insurance options because we know that everyone views coverage differently and has unique needs.
Beyond home insurance, we’re passionate about protecting what matters most—people. That’s why we place a strong emphasis on life insurance, helping families secure their financial future.
I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done, including earning high honors within Farmers. We’re a 7x Toppers Club qualifier, ranking us among the top 10% of Farmers agents nationwide. But more than the awards, what sets us apart is our commitment to putting our clients first—not just in words, but in action. We know that without our clients, we wouldn’t have a business. That’s why we focus on building long-term relationships by implementing strong processes that provide value far beyond the initial sale. Our goal is to be a resource and advocate for our clients throughout the years, not just when they first sign a policy.
What does success mean to you?
Success is building a thriving agency that not only grows but makes a real difference in people’s lives. It’s seeing my team succeed, my clients feel protected, and knowing that the work we do has a positive impact on the community.
